Favorite cities in Spain??

We are thinking of going to Spain for a week in September and are looking for advice on what cities to visit.  We defiantly want to do Barcelona, a beach town, and possibly one other city.  Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Favorite cities in Spain??

  • My favorite city in Spain is Seville. I also loved many of the white hill towns in Andalusia along with Barcelona. With a week I would probably split your time between two cities as Barcelona should take up at least 3 of your vacation days.
  • We didn't go to Barcelona so I can't comment on that but we really enjoyed Toledo, Granada (at least the Alhambra), Seville and Cordoba.
  • If you want to go to Barcelona for sure my suggestion would be Montserrat.

  • I personally like the idea of breaking Spain up into north and south on different trips, which is what we've done. So for northern Spain, we did a few days in Barcelona, which I adore, 2 nights in San Sebastian (beautiful beach, lovely old town and some of the best food in Spain), and Logrono in Rioja (excellent tapas and it's a  great base for wine tasting).
  • I'm very late to this, but FWIW: here is my trip report from late Feb. We spent a week in Barcelona, with 2 day trips - it was perfect! On a separate vacation, we visited Madrid (with side trips to Escorial and Toledo), and Andalusia (Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla).

  • I don't think you can find a bad city in Spain (ok, maybe Gibraltar isn't for everyone, but I blame the UK ;)).

Anyway, my favorite city in Spain is San Sebastian-- it's beautiful, the beach, the people, the food, the countryside.  Honestly, can't think of one con.
