MacBook air

Hey ladies, I am going back to school in the fall and thinking about buying a MacBook air, 13 in. Does anyone have one, any thoughts on the product would be amazing. TIA!

      Re: MacBook air

      • Are you a mac user already? What is attracting you to the air?

Nope don't have an air. Just two mac book pros and an imac (the imac went kaput during a strange power outage). It's just something wrong with the file structure and I haven't tried to pull it apart yet to recover files. It could happen to any computer though (PC or Mac). And if I ever bother I can replace the drive to get it going again.

The only thing that really turns me off about it is that there is no cd drive. I personally have a need to burn cd's for classes. With the air (been awhile since I price checked) you are paying $$ for the light weight and size.

I agree. With the air, you're just paying for size and light weight. I have a MacBook pro and love it. I've had it for about 4 years now and haven't had any problems with it. Macs in general last longer than PCs. So, I'd pass on the Air and either get a Macbook or Macbook Pro. Well worth it in the end.

      • Also the the macbook pro I am on now is around 7-8 years old and runs World of Warcraft like a champ. Which is really good if you don't know.

Another thing I like about Mac is if it is a known problem (ie a fault of theirs) they will fix it for free! The screen on one of our macs went black. It would start up just fine but we couldnt do crud because of a black screen. We took it in to apple and they fixed it no problem because it was a glitch that was happening with many of their computers at the time (their fault). I do recommend getting their protection plan/ warranty for the longest you can. It is worth every penny. When it runs out it costs $$ for Apple to fix it for you. Computers hate me and I have had less problems with Mac's then PC's.

There are classes available for you to learn about your Mac in the store. You just have to ask about  them.

      • I also have a MacBook Pro I just got mine a few months ago and was a former Dell (yuck) user. I LOVE my mac! Like the posts say above make sure the laptop you get has everything you need. I did tons of research and thinking before I went and got mine, and realized that having the cd drive for me was really useful since I still have cd's that I import into iTunes every now and then.

Also if you are coming from Dell, HP etc. I would suggest going to the class at a Mac store, I didn't and later kind of wished that I had, I did call the Mac help line once (super helpful and a real live person!!) and did a lot of just reading up on Mac stuff online.

      • Sorry it took me so long to get back to you ladies. We had both sides of the family in town, one after the other so it's been a little crazy here!!

I was looking at the air bc it is light weight, but I have been looking more into the computer and I am worried about the long term usage bc it seems like it has very limited memory and that has me worried. So I'm not sure what I am going to do... I kind of want to wait but it would be nice to have a newer computer for school. And I am getting ready to quit my job bc I completely hate it and am going back to school in Aug.

*sigh* so much to figure out... lol
