Spa Recs

Hi, Ladies! DH is going to be in Baltimore for about a month for work, and I'm going to be visiting him for 5 days at the beginning of July. I was thinking that I will take a spa day and get a mani/pedi, facial, and massage. Would you be able to recommend a spa near the Inner Harbor? Restaurant and activity recommendations would be appreciated as well. TIA!

Re: Spa Recs

  • The Four Seasons has a great spa
    Lilypie Third Birthday tickers
  • Studio 921 in the Foundry in Fed Hill is awesome. Raj is the best masseuse.

  • I don't have spa recs but what types of things are you looking to do?  Have you ever been to Baltimore before?  What area are you staying in?

Camden Yards is a great stadium to catch a game.  It's an iconic stadium in the sense that when it opened 20 years ago, the design and architecture were innovative and it set prescidence for stadiums all over.  The O's aren't at home much in July so there may not be a game for you to go to but a stadium tour might be worth it.  I'm sure M&T Stadium (where the Ravens play) offers tours too.

Fell's Point is a little area in the east Baltimore harbor area that has great little local bars and shops.  The Horse You Came In On (aka: The Horse) is my favorite down there.  Coopers Tavern and Slainte are also great little spots.  I tend to stick with the bars along Thames Street (all three are) because they're a little less underage and filled with more locals than college kids.

The area called Canton is slightly past Fell's Point going away from the Harbor.  It's more of a yuppy area (IMO) but there are some great bars and restaurants there as well.  If you like seafood, Mama's on the Half Shell is fabulous.  Their sister restaurant, Nacho Mama's (a few doors down) is great for Mexican and known for hubcaps (margarita's served in an actual hubcap).

The Inner Harbor is fully tourist...filled with chain restaurants.  Nice to walk around but not necessarily eat if you're looking for local.

Federal Hill and Locust Point are more residential areas similar to Fell's and Canton but more family oriented.  Locust Point is where Fort McHenry is.  You could take a picnic and go eat at Ft. McHenry...sits right on the water with gorgeous views of the Chespeake Bay (just ignore the big towers and industrial building on the other side!).

     Will you have a car?

Thank you for the recommendations! I have been to Baltimore twice, but I have not ventured far from the Inner Harbor. I did go see Edgar Allan Poe's grave and take a ghost tour in Fell's Point. I won't have much time with DH other than in the evenings, so I think that having a picnic or catching a game are out. He will be working 12hrs a day, 7 days a week. I requested an appointment at Spa 921, so we'll see how that goes. I'm looking more for nice spots to visit like a park or something just to be outside. I will be bringing a few books. Are there any public swimming areas?

  • Public pools in downtown Baltimore have a hard time getting funded through Rec and Parks.  Not sure where there even is one anymore but honestly, I'm not sure you'd want to venture there.  Most, if I remember, are in not-so-great neighborhoods.  You're better off sticking to the hotel pool if there is one.

There is a Merritt Athletic Center (local gym chain) in Canton with a pool.  They may allow for you to purchase day passes but I'm not entirely sure.
