How to write Thank you cards for monetary gifts?

Hi Ladies,

I'm slowly starting to write the Thank you cards. We mostly received cash/checks for our wedding. How do you word it? Is it ok if we dont include what we plan to do with the money? We used some of the money during our honeymoon but don't have a plan for the rest of the money yet - besides paying bills or so.

Thank you!

ugh... I really need to get started on those!

I'll probably write something along the lines of:

"Dear......, It was great seeing you at the wedding. Thank you so much for your generous gift. It will definitely be useful in starting our new home together, and we truly appreciate it. Love,......"

I don't think you need to be more specific than that as far as what you'll use the money for.

I agree with this...we are having to use a fair amount of money on bills (I cringe at doing it...but otherwise we lose our house....so be it!) so we will be saying something along these lines too!

    I like this!  I wrote

" Thank you so much for the generous gift!  We really appreciate!  We are going to use it to buy things for our home! (truthfully we paid of debt but did get a few more things off our registry) Thank you so much for celebrating our special day with us!  We hope you had a great time!

  • I like both of the above responses.  You don't need to be specific about what you are going to do with the money.  It's a gift to you and I honestly wouldn't want to know what people do with money that I give them.

This is pretty much what I am going to write (and wrote for the bridal shower). I don't think you need to go into specifics. I wouldn't even refer to the amount. Just thank them and let them know it will be used wisely.

  • Thanks ladies!

I read on the Etiquette, that you should write where the money gift will go to... but since we just used it during our honeymoon and just paying bills, I wasn't sure how to phrase it in the Thank you cards.

     Thanks again!

  • I just said "Thank you for thinking of us on our wedding day and for the money. It really help us a lot" I like things simple. :) HTH

  • I do like to say something about what it's being used for...even if it's a little vague or (like in the case of gift cards) I'm not even 100% sure.  Sometimes I just say what I like to use it for =]

This is exactly how I plan to thank guests for money.

  • I agree with PPs. I've been saying in mine "we can't wait to use it for our new life together." since we will actually be movin into my in laws basement, we ended up not even needing any of the cute homey stuff we asked for :-(
