Moms - Stocking the medicine cabinet

What do I need/should have on hand as far as the medicine cabinet is concerned for baby? I am exchanging the pacifier thermometer for a rectal one, and I have an assortment of diaper rash creams, Vaseline, nail clippers, and baby nail files. I know I'll get the nasal aspirator from the hospital, and am considering a Nose Frida, Laura informed me today I need Mylicon gas drops and gripe water. What else should I get to stock up and have just in case?

  • I'd pick up some infant Tylenol or something. The only other thing we used was the children's Zantac bc she had reflux, as well as Zyrtec for her allergies. The pedi would tell you if you need those though!

  • I personally would wait until you know what you are going to want/need.  I wouldn't use Tylenol or Motrin for at least the first 6 months. We never used gas drops. We probably had at least $50 of stuff that we never used and threw out.

When you get to the teething point I fond that Motrin worked way better than Tylenol.

  • I would pick up Baby Tylenol- its better to have it in the house just in case you need it. Even though you would rather avoid using it in the beginning, if he/she spikes a fever, you already have it on hand.

  • We used gas drops, tylenol and Morton. For Mag's, tylenol works beet for fevers and Morton got pain. We started using them pretty early since she was at a large Wright and she got teeth so damn early. I stuck with genetic (honestly Mag's likes the flavor of target brand drugs best). You may not need them, but it is better to have them and not need them to be in a bind.

  • I got a kit that had a thermometer, syringe, nasal aspirator, comb, nail clippers, nail files, and a few other miscellaneous things.  Then I also got:  Gas Drops, Gripe Water, Tylenol and Advil.  We didn't need them all right away and only used the gas drops a few times but I was happy we had them on hand so we didn't have to run out and buy them when we wanted to give them a try.
