  • The video makes me sick to my stomach. I can't believe how rude and disrespectful some kids can be. Just disgusting. I'm also very curious to know what their parents thought of this behavior.

  • This video actually doesn't surprise me at all. It's sad and disgusting. However, after subbing in an inner city district for two years, i can tell you that kids ARE this bad. I'd be willing to bet many other adults knew about this on a daily basis and did nothing "because they are kids with unfortunate cercumstances". I saw this so many times and even heard that reaction from many adults. sick...

This is my step son's school. Not inner city. It is outside Rochester, NY.

Please do not classify all children of poverty under the same umbrella for that matter. Bullying can be found in all communities, not just the kids with "unfortunate circumstances."

I can't believe it's the school your step son goes to! It's only about 2 1/2 hours from me and the high school is one of my husbands accounts for work and he is up there all the time (he is in yearbook sales). I didn't realize you step son lived in NY.

Now on the topic... It's awful. Kids need to learn that words are hurtful. I know we have a lot of teachers on the board and so they will obviously be more informed on the subjects than I am... But I feel like many kids these days are very self absorbed because of things like facebook and they don't realize that words can actually be hurtful.

  • THe video is discusting but not surprising unfortunately. When I was in the seventh grade kids bullied the math teacher so bad that he resigned suddenly at the beginning of the year. He had had throat surgery and during recovery his voice was very high. It was horrible. I wasn't a part of it but looking back it was much worse then I thought it was through middle schooler eyes. The only diffrence is now we have th technology to get it all on tape.

Ditto Maria. Bullying happens even in rural districts, private schools, etc. Poverty does not unilaterally equal disrespectful children.

  • I teach in what we call a "bubble" - the kids have gone on greater vacations I'll ever go on, etc.  I could see this happening in my district as well.

I think that these boys need to be mowing Karen's lawn, cleaning her rain gutters, and taking out the trash for the next 10 years (minimum).  AND, I think they should be in charge of cleaning the bus!

One of the parents was interviewed on Anderson Cooper 360 tonight.  He didn't really know what to say about the whole thing... other than that privileges would be taken away.  Wah wah!

  • This happens everywhere and I don't think that it's anything new...I think I just see it more now that I'm getting older. But looking back I definitely remember times students would be harassing other kids and adults. It's the group mentality. The sad thing is that not one student on there said anything to even attempt to stop what was happening. Adults are just as guilty though from interactions that I've seen or heard about in person and online. This is more common than I think anyone may realize.

  • I also have to say that the adults who are now making death threats and harassing the students involved are no better than the students. Let's teach these kids a lesson by doing the same thing to them that they did to this lady?! Don't think that will work at all.

  • Maria, I'm sorry. That's not what I meant at all. I'm sorry I offended you. I didn't mean to say this just happens in some areas or that some areas always have bad schools. Obviously that's not the case and I know that. I meant to just share my experience that i had seen this before in what happened to be an inner city school and that was the particular administrations response. I didn't know the details of the school at all and in no way assumed it was in one area or another. I should have chosen my words better. It came out sounding like "this doesn't surprise me. It's inner city" when what I meant was "bullying like this doesn't surprise me. I've seen it myself".

Sorry Maria (and anybody else). Didn't mean to hurt feelings.

Ugh I'm not surprised. An unfortunately, parents are more concerned with defending their children than actually accepting that they did something wrong. I see it first hand everyday (I'm a teacher). Back when we were all in school, if the teacher or principal called home we were petrified and knew there were going to be consequences. For a lot of children, that doesn't mean much anymore before they know their parents will have their back.

    I completely agree with this.
