Help me find a rug for my new kitchen!

If you are bored and feel like doing some online browsing, I am trying to find a new rug for our kitchen/dining room. I can't make decisions! I am looking for something a little more on the modern/contemporary side, but not so contemporary that it will be out of style by next year.

This is essentially the color and style of our cabinets:

We will have a dark granite (almost black, but not black black) and our wood floors are a lighter shade. I know you want to help me! :)

Re: Help me find a rug for my new kitchen!

  • Do you have a dominate color you like?

I think something with red or green and black wold be nice. Those colors are very similar to my dad and step mothers kitchen and they have a rug with a black background and red and green paisleyish (but not exactly) florals. It's really pretty.

  • Right now I am thinking about a brighter green (chartreuse-ish) for the walls. It would only be the top half of the walls, the bottom will be white (we already have a chair rail there, it would be more work than we want to remove that). If I don't do that greenish color on the walls, I would do a more neutral wall color, maybe gray toned, and use the green color for curtains and other accents. I think it depends on what we do for a backsplash, and I want to pick that before we paint.

So I am really looking at a lot of rugs with that brighter green color kind of accented in.

  • Not really a rug but I have a rad kitchen mat from Ballard designs. It's

    in French!

  • I like leafy rug patterns like this... so it's not overly "formal" or old looking but not overly modern/contemporary either...

    Or maybe geometric designs:

Or maybe with black to accent the granite

I found that looking for area rugs has been so hard... I could never commit, lol and could never find the PERFECT one. :) Happy hunting! :)
