keep me company?! Hubby is off having boys time with his dad and brother so I'm at home with the kids aka puppies! I should be writing my thank you cards (I've done about 25 so that's good right?!) but I'd much rather discuss anything else with you ladies and drink some wine!! So, who here wants to keep me company
Hey, Hey Hockeytown!

Re: Anyone around to...
I'm around...trying to also get some more thank yous done! I was sooo good about doing the first half, and I've totally procrastinated on the second half!
Have you started reading 11/22/63?
Yeah I started, I'm on a Kindle so I'm not sure page wise how far I am but I'm 12% in.
Definitely interesting, although it doesn't surprise me too much after reading the Dark Tower series he wrote (kind of a futuristic fantasy/traveling between worlds/old western combo). I didn't realize he wrote anything but horror until the Dark Tower series, I think by adding all 7 of those to my goodreads that how I stumbled upon 11/22/63 and added it to my "to-do" list. Although I probably shouldn't have started this early, at this pace I'l be done before July even starts =]
And I've gotten 4 thank you cards done so far!
Five =] Even though I keep sealing the envelopes without putting the business cards with our photog's website on them. I have a bunch leftover from the wedding so I'm trying to get rid of them...unsuccessfully haha.
Feels so good to get all that wedding stuff out of the house, right? I feel a little bit more weight lifted each time I ship a box out.
I will say that the Dark Tower series did take a little bit of a time commitment on my part. I read about 2-3 books a month, but it took me several months to finish all 7 of the books.
I have a regular Kindle. The thing that rubs me the wrong way about the Kindle Fire, iPad, etc. is that all those things are backlit, just like a regular computer screen. A regular kindle looks just the page of a book (like paper). You can read it in the sun, and it doesn't glow in the dark. Backlit screens are not good for reading - trying reading text on your computer/laptop screen for an hour or two and see how your eyes feel! So if someone is going to use Kindle Fire mainly like a computer/tablet, that's one thing....if you are getting it primarily to read, I would just stick with a regular kindle.
And like you said - I have been reading so much more since I've gotten the kindle since I never bought books because I had no place to put them. I moved around a lot while I was in school (for 7 years) and moving boxes of books is the worst. I hate clutter, I'd need a library if I had a paper book for every one I'd read. And the best thing is when you are reading series - you can finish book one and be reading book two in about 45 seconds =] Kindle is one of the best presents I've ever got!
Woohoo! You're killing those thank you cards
I've done 6 more and I think I might be done for the night. I am basically writing the same thing over and over again and it's getting old. My goal is to have them done by Monday so I've got a whole day left to finish them.
You've definitely sold me on getting just a regular kindle! I want something that I can read on the deck without the glare or having to prop up a heavy book. I wish I could read 2-3 books a month! I'm usually a one book a month kind of gal, if not longer, unless I am really into the book but that hasn't happened in a while. I haven't gotten really into a book in a long time and it kind of bums me out. 11/22/63 is good so far but I'm not at that 'I can't put it down' stage.
11 down! I usually do 10 in a sitting, but since I'm on a roll I think I'm just going to keep doing them. It also helps that I am basically writing the same thing in all of them, because I am at the point on my gift lists where we were opening all cards with money in them.
I know what you mean about really getting into a book...I feel like I've finished my backlog of books I really, really wanted to read and now I'm just fishing around in the dark for something that will surprise me by being really good. Although I am waiting for some more series of books to come out with the next book - esp. Game of Thrones! Do you like fantasy? If so, definitely recommend Game of Thrones!
It's great! One of the last real page turners I've read. I finished the books as they announced they were going to making it into a show on HBO, so I was doubly excited! I'd been searching for something to fill the Harry Potter book/movie void and it definitely helped.
And I know what you mean about slow progress. We've been doing a little bit of everything - deep cleaning the house, decorating, working on the yard, reorganizing after the wedding...I feel like we've made baby steps on all fronts but are no where near finishing anything. But I suppose that's life!
What kind of furniture have you been painting? I've been thinking of painting a dresser we have to go in our of our spare bedrooms. Thinking about it because there are about 15 things on my list in front of it, but you know...
I've painted a couple dressers and just today I painted an entry table. I wipe the furniture down with a damp cloth to clean it a bit, then use a very fine sand paper to get some of the manufacturer shine off of it. Today I used Behr semi-gloss paint to paint the table with a small foam roller. I think using a brush takes too long and leaves too many marks. I did two coats of paint and a sealer to give it a nice shine. Cost me $20 since the table was free
I still have to attach legs to it but it turned out really nice. It took me about 1.5 hours to complete the whole thing and in betwen coats I also painted a shelf so I got a lot done with not a lot of work involved!
I know what you mean about the Harry Potter void! I could read those books again and again (and sometimes I do). I was spoiled with how great that whole series was and now I can't find anything to compare to it!
