Recommend your OB

I recently found out I am pregnant and have not gone to the doctor yet.  I have my first couple of appts scheduled but I am having second thoughts. I moved here about a year ago and was referred to my doctor by insurance and I've only seen her once and then saw the NP.  I won't actually be seeing the doctor until I'm 11 weeks because she will be on vacation and I feel like that's a long time to wait.  I also have other health concerns that could potentially become high risk so that is worrying me too.  I am feeling like a change is needed and I am a little lost as to where to go from here.  Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Re: Recommend your OB

  • Congrats!

I am newer to the GR area as well and wanted to pick an OB before we tried for #2. I saw Dr. Elena Tanner from Spectrum. One of the other docs she works with was actually recommended to me but I picked Dr Tanner because she sees patients both in GR and also in Wyoming/Grandville at the West Pavillion. I am so happy I picked her! I instantly felt comfortable with her the minute she walked in the door. She seems very laid back and super nice, easy to talk to.

I believe Dr Klyn was also recommened, who is at the same office in GR as Dr Tanner.

And I believe that Dr. Lalley who is also with Spectrum (different office) was recommended by others as well.

This was a topic in the past, but the thread is gone, so I am sure the other girls will chime in on this for you. If you pick a different doc I would mention when you call to make your appointment that you have some health concerns. They may have you talk to one of the nurses right away and possibly get you in sooner or give you some advice until you can be seen. Good luck!!

  • i used dr stephen rechner of west michigan ob and he was fantastic.  he specializes in high risk pregnancies.  he was very gentle and happy to follow any choices that i made.  i felt like he just wanted to make my experience as pleasant as possible throughout the whole pregnancy.

he sees patients downtown and in grandville.

    congratulations and good luck.

    Congratulations!

Dr. Lalley delivered my baby (Spectrum OB/GYN office on Lake MI Dr).  She was great.  I also really like Dr. Federico in that same office, very experienced, and a great sense of humor. He would ask me a million times if I had any questions or concerns.  Dr. West was nice too.  There's only one doc in that whole office I didn't like, but I can't remember her name. She was probably the oldest woman in the practice.  Zero personality.

I know a lot of people who recommend Dr. Talcott in Wyoming.  I don't know if he's experienced with high risk, but everyone I know who sees him loves him.

  • Congrats!!

I am going to West MI Ob/Gyn downtown (they also have a Grandville branch) and I like it there so far. I see Dr. VanSlooten.  Everyone seems very nice, appts seem pretty on time, and they have a lab right within the office which is nice.  I work downtown so it is extremely convenient to leave work for an hour or so for my visit then go right back to work.

This is my recommendation as well. I see Dr. Vanden Bosch, but I;ve heard good things with all the DR in that office.

Side note to Elisabeth29: Dr. VanSlooten's Dad was my dentist for years.
