I used to like gardening. The kind where my mom did most of the work, but I got to help plant the annuals in the 2 small garden beds in the front yard.
Now, we own a house with a ridiculous number of garden beds. There is a ~100ft x 5 foot raised bed with a stone wall up from the driveway to the bed, and then another stone wall on the back going up to the neighbor's yard. Said neighbor never keeps their bushes/vines/weeds in check, so they often spill onto our side. The vines are now climbing all over the taller Forcythia and Lilac bushes that are planted in our beds, and the roses are a huge pain to try to keep under control. Well, truth of the matter is that I used to keep them under control, but since Tynan was born I haven't put in the time to properly cut everything back. I am slowly making progress, but I'm only 1/3 of the way down the length of the driveway.

This is an old picture... we have since filled in the grass and paved the driveway. This is from 3 years go when the neighbors took a chainsaw to everything growing on their side of the rock wall, which is why you can see their lawn. The reality of the situation today is that it's a wall of unruly green stuff that completely shades our garden bed.
As I see it, we have 2 options. The first is to rip out a ton of stuff on our side, put down weed block, and mulch the heck out of it so that it would be less green stuff everywhere. The other option is to embrace the green, and get rid of some of the bigger plants/bushes/trees in favor of more groundcover. It would be more green, but it would be less chaotic and you'd be able to see more of the rock wall along the property line.
Which look would you prefer?
Re: Gardening issues (long)
That being said, I would probably go with your second option. Embrace the green groundcover!
I think we will go with the green groundcover.
I made it through another 1/3 or better of the driveway. Here's a couple of before pictures (first on the left, 2nd moving to the right - you can line up the giant dark green hosta)
And an after:
Still out of control and more overgrown than is my taste, but at least you can see that there are a few individual bushes/trees and that there's a stone wall back there! I took out an entire rosebush and holly, and still need to move around some of the hostas. There's one right in front of a pretty hydrangea and I want to move it so you see the flowers instead. Maybe next weekend...
