1 year old Bday gift

We are going to Hub's godson's first birthday extravaganza. Any ideas on what to get a 1 year old boy?

Re: 1 year old Bday gift

  • We had this issue last year. I ended up going on Amazon and googling presents for one year olds. The baby is now 18 months. Currently he is driving one of those red and yellow cars a lot, has a sand box and likes his blocks that spell the abc's and numbers. He also has a mini baby blow up pool that he likes to splash in. There are so many things you will find on Amazon though that you can just have shipped.
  • I would suggest bath and board books- chewable things.  I got my nephew a football with holes and it was flexible for his 1st birthday from Target and he loved it. Megablocks/duplos/ things like that. ABC blocks or an ABC train or something that talks and teaches like Fisher Price has a smart house that tells you when you touch it what it is or anything like that.
  • We got our nephew one of those toys/books that have buttons for each letter of the alphabet and depending on the page of the book you were on it would say the letter & word on the page.

  • My SIL put a wishlist up on Toys R Us for Christmas, so check there first.  Our twin nephews were super into Mickey Mouse at that age, so we got them all sorts of bathing suits and pj's from the Disney store.  We also got them a water table to play at.

  • I always give wipes, diapers, etc.  The moms are usually like OMG YES!  Lol.  The kid's not gonna remember this birthday anyway, so I usually think outside the box and buy for the parents/logistics.  Ask the parents if they'd be cool with that.

  • Great ideas everyone! The parents are going ALL OUT for this kid's first bday so we got a little overwhelmed with the idea of an appropriate gift. H really liked the football idea or also thought of one of those cars that the kid sits in that you push that they can eventually Fred Flinstone it for themselves.

Personally I don't get the whole HUGE 1st bday thing. Our kids are just gonna get a cake and that's it! lol

I hear you on that.  My cousin and his wife rented an inflatable bouncy house for their daughter's first birthday a couple summers ago.  The kids had so much fun, but I thought it was a bit much.  Oh, and there was a pig roast for the adults.  Summer fun for everyone LOL.

Gift wise, I think I gave her a cell phone toy and some books.

We had two babies turning one at the same time, so I was overwhelmed with gifts.  My cousin did a hugeass party for her kid, complete with him riding in on a tiny Escalade (I kid you not).  It was crazy.

For gifts, I just ended up going to the toy aisles of big box stores and either asking people or playing with things that were labelled for about 1-2 years. I think I got a few of the play station things, where the kid can either sit or stand by it and push things. For my best friend's kid, we bought this convertible thing that was a sit toy first, then a push toy,  then a riding toy, so he could use it for a long time.  I realize that is probably the worst description ever, but he does love it.

  • When in doubt, buy books! Sometimes I try to find my old favorites, or something new I've heard about, but parents appreciate them, and they get used!

  • Anything soft. A new stuffed animal of blanket. Is their baby registry still up? You might be able to find something on there appropriate for a 1 year old.

  • I'm a fan of toys that are also educational.  They like noisy things, or things with lights.  Have fun with it!!!!  :)
