dress shopping

What are your favorite stores to find cocktail-style dresses? I need to be able to try it on, so no online-only stores unless they have free shipping and a great return policy. We're going to a wedding in a few weeks and I'm having a hard time finding a dress I like, especially at a reasonable price (under $100, preferably much less).

Re: dress shopping

  • I love Anthropologie, especially their dresses, but their style can be hit or miss.  some times I walk in the store and want every single item, other times I walk in and just shake my head because the selection is totally fug.
  • I've had really good luck at White House Black Market at Penn Square. Also like The Limited (also at Penn). Both places usually have dresses right around $100, though, if not a little more.

  • I normally like to go with Dillard's or Macy's bc they always have many choices and clearance racks.

  • I'd check out Macy's.

  • Agree with all of the above, especially White House | Black Market.

  • I would check out the off Saks at the outlet. They always have a huge selection of items 50% off - plus, right now you can get another 30% everything with a MORE card (the MORE card is essentially you giving them an email address so they can send you propoganda, not a credit card).  I would be shocked if you couldn't get a dress for less than $50.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. I usually have luck at Dillard's, but I wasn't able to find anything there I liked except juniors' dresses that are too short for a wedding, and none of the dresses I liked at Macy's fit properly. I peeked in WH/BM, but I was hoping for something more colorful.

I'll have to try this over the weekend. I have yet to visit the outlet mall, so it's time to remedy that.
