Ring Cleaning/ Maintenance

How often do you get your ring cleaned by the jewler?

How often and how do you lean your ring on your own?

If you have white gold how often do you get it plated with rhodium?

I am bringing in my rings this week to the jewelers. They need a professional cleaning. Not the quickie in store kind. The last time I took them in to be cleaned was before the wedding or just after. Hooray for having a bad memory!

I do clean on a regular basis at home. For the two years I had my e-ring I cleaned with a soft toothbrush and non scratchy, baby tooth paste. Worked ok. Then in May I bought a jewelry cleaning solution. It works so much better.

I had absolutely no yellowing of my e-ring until I started wearing both rings. I started to notice yellowing. It was so faint I didn't realize I needed to take it in. It is obvious now. Only yellowish if I turn my palm up since it is on the bottom of the rings. They will be getting rhodium plated while they are out. Can't have my white gold turn into yellow gold. Eight months isn't to bad of a stretch but I need to start taking them in more. Like every 3 months or so.

Re: Ring Cleaning/ Maintenance

  • I have not taken mine in for any sort of maintenance yet, but I plan on doing it in about 3.5 weeks, after we get back from a trip to Miami and Key West. I'm going to have them soldered together and cleaned. The e-ring does not stay centered in the diamonds on the two wedding bands and it drives me nuts. And mine are all platinum, so no plating. I can't wait to have them all fixed up though!

  • I want to get them cleaned and replated. I got them at 2 different places. I wonder if I can take both to the local place my e-ring is from and see if they'll clean my band too...

I keep meaning to take mine in for a cleaning/inspection.  I think 'technically' under the plan he paid for, I'm supposed to take it in every 6 months for an inspection.  Because if I ever lost the diamond they would replace it, no charge.  But - I've gone 6 months without taking it.  Opps.  So I'm not sure what that means.  Either way I should stop in there!

  • I get mine cleaned like every month-ish or so. We got my set from Kay's so if we're in the mall and the lady I like is working, I will have her clean it. I had it replated when we got them soldered together, but it's getting a little yellow now. Not too bad, but maybe in a bit I will get them redone. I had to send my ring in so many times before though that I don't like being without it!
  • I clean them at home with jewelery cleaner occasionally, and they always look better, but don't have that new sparkly look like after the jeweler has clean and re-plated them.

The last time I took them in to get cleaned and re-plated was right before we got married. I was planning on waiting until our first anniversary to have it done again, but one of the prongs on my center stone is slightly bent, so we're going to have to take it in sooner. I plan to have them soldered together then, too.

  • I clean mine at home about every month or so. I sent the rings off to get cleaned about 2 months ago because I dropped my wedding band on the floor and one of the little diamonds popped out! I was so bummed but they didn't charge me anything and fixed it, so that made me happy again :)

We went to Key West for our honeymoon....loved every minute of our trip, everyone we met was so nice and relaxed and helpful! We really can't wait to go back again. Have an amazing trip!!

  • I get try to get mine cleaned in the store about once a month. Mine were replated right before the wedding when I had them sodered. I don't very often clean them at home, but have a jewelry solution to clean them in when I find the time.

  • I get mine cleaned every few months at the jewelers.  The last time was in late April.  I don't do any cleaning on my own.

When I started wearing my wedding band I noticed my e-ring was a bit scratched and worn down on the sides.  The jeweler said that it happens due to the two rings rubbing against each other.  It's not like people look at the sides of the ring, so I'm not too worried about it.  I don't clean it on my own.

  • we take it in every six months; but that's mainly because for our insurance policy through the store Vhati got it in, requires us to take it in every six months.  They check to make sure no stones are loose, that it still looks good and then give it a cleaning.

The only cleaning of it I do at home is just wiping it off on my jeans if it looks funky.

Haven't had it plated; still looks fine 2 years after Vhati gave it to me and 3 years after he bought it; no yellowing at all.

  • We have to have ours cleaned every six months. Which reminds me I have to go do that soon. pff.
  • I've had to take my set in a couple times since the wedding.... I had the rings soldered together and that's when they did the plating on them since they're different metals (plat for the e-ring, and 18K wg for the band), the second time was because there was a gap between one side of the band and the e-ring and I was also missing a few of the small diamonds, and I lost another diamond so I need to take it in again....

They gave me the solution to clean it at home and I try to clean it once a week because I volunteer in a coffee shop and am around coffee grounds and oils and all that fun stuff...
