Sesame Place info

We got back today from a trip to Philly to visit friends and to Sesame Place yesterday.  A couple people were interested so here is my 2 cents.

It was hot!  But the clouds did come out & the park is mostly water slides/rides so that's a plus.  Wear your suit to the park - we didn't & ended up changing about an hour after we got there.

Bring lunch. There are lockers to store a soft pack cooler (they have to be under a certain size) or put it in your stroller.  We didn't buy anything exc. drinks but I heard the prices are really high for food.   We brought alot of snacks & sandwiches and snacked on & off all day.

We did the main roller coaster first and then moved to the dry rides first.  There really aren't that many so you can go through most within an hour or two.  Then we did the big water rides in the back of the park &  they weren't really that crowded yet.  I would say the crowd was steady but the waits seemed less than you would find at Kennywood.  15-30 mins maybe tops for most popular rides.  It seemed that most people were in the teeny tidal wave (2 ft pool) and splash pad for kids.

Shows - we did Sid the Science Kid which was ok - but its only this weeked.  If Keira hadn't fallen asleep we would have done an Elmo one.

Parade - 3 pm on main street.  You don't have to get there that early b/c there is a lot of room on the street to see.  We were on the left side (facing into the park) and had a good view.  Or skip the parade & ride the rides when lines are low.

We got there around 10:30 (a friend dropped us off), and left around 6.  We did all the rides & Caileigh would have stayed & rode more but Keira slept for over an hour & is not a big rider so we had done everything & were fine leaving.  We actually walked to Pizzaria Uno next door & ate vs. trying to eat at the park.  We also had a long day Sat so no one wanted to stay all night.

Either take/wear water shoes or shoes you can get wet (crocs).  The ground is that pebbly kind of concrete & it kills your feet not to mention gets really hot between rides.

We only saw Abby Cadabby walking main street & taking pictures.   A few others were saw were being hussled to the shows.  I was disappointed (and surprised) with that b/c everyone said there were a ton of characters walking around.

Overall it was nice but I think its $$$$ for how small it is.  If you go 2 days then you get the 2nd day free but I'd do a weekday next time & get a discount. We had originally planned to go back today but its really a one day park.  I was surprised how small it was which is nice for walking but not for the $$.  I think Idewild has twice as much for less $$.   But the park is clean, workers are nice but be prepared for a very diverse mix of people & more flesh than you would ever want to see!  Also the nice thing is there is plenty of attractions that are just open like the big splash pad (same one at Idelwild), lazy river, tidal pool, ropes course, etc.. so you can just sit and watch your kids or be in the water with them and don't have to be in a line the whole time for a 20 second ride.

Caileigh loved it and wanted to go back.  Keira still has another year or two to appreciate amusement parks.  We left Eamon with my friend thank goodness b/c he would have been miserable!   We may consider going back but probably by the time we do Caileigh will be too old.  The rides are not scary at all for 6- 7 & up but she liked them.

Any questions let me know!

Re: Sesame Place info

  • Wow i just read this to my dh- we loved your review:). We always wondered how it was and I can't stand i am sold on it. I heard good things bout hershey park! Thank you soo much for your review! Really appreciate it!
  • Thanks for the detailed review....we thought about going but I think we'll stick to our season passes at Idlewild.

  • Now I'm worried we won't have enough to do with our 2 day pass.  We are planning to be there Monday and Wednesday (doing Crayola on Tuesday) so hopefully it won't be as crowded as a weekend.  Would you say it's walkable for a 3 year old?  Or should I bring the double stroller?  Did you end up going to the Crayola factory?

Thanks so much for the review.  I'm going to read it to dh later so I might have some more questions for you.

  • I still think there are things to do for 2 days.  If we didn't want to get back home (work today) we would have went back & done the rides again, saw some of the shows (we missed all of them) and spent more time on the "dry" rides.  Believe me Caileigh would love to go back the next day.  But if you are worried about needing 2 days, don't be.

We didn't do the crayola museum - I got mixed reviews on it and we were beat anyway so just came home.  I think going on weekdays will definitely be less crowded than Sunday.

My 3.5 yr old definitely needed a stroller - if I had the baby with us I would have taken the double.  Caileigh walked no problem.  You can rent them there too.  I took our bigger stroller that has more storage space vs. umbrella.  We needed the space for the cooler to snack all day & I was glad we took the one that recline b/c she slept.   Funny but the stroller system is alot like disney - its like an unwritten rule that you can leave your stroller out with everything in it and no one will steal anything.  Not that someone wouldn't but I've never had a problem.

We've been there twice. Once when Olivia was 19 months and we were just there early this month.

I had to laugh about the seeing more flesh part. Isn't that the truth?

That was probably the last time we'll go because Olivia was not very interested in the shows this time and Alex doesn't care either way. It's super expensive for a little park, but I do believe if your kids love Sesame Street, you should go for the experience.

Weekdays ARE better. We've never went on a weekend. We've gotten photos with all the characters with little to no waiting. Go early in the season for less crowds.
