Transformers "Drama In Desguise"

Long story short we are in the middle of trying to secure a loan for a per-construction town home development in Northern VA. We have not heard if our loan has been accepted or not. We went with the builders lender (incentives are great) so we understand this is a lengthy process.

We are super excited so we have driven by the home site a few times, well this past weekend we saw they started on the basement and two walls are now up.

In between the two walls is a cooler size green utility box. It's either a transformer box or electrical box.  It's square center in the middle of the back yard rather close to the house. I am not sure if it's permanent or not as the completion date is not till this fall (November). Will they move this to the front of the house?

Wanted to ask if anyone has dealt with utility boxes in yards and what my options are.  I have mentioned it to my relator and she has try contacting the sales manager but she is out of town.

With 2 toddlers I am not sure how a big green box in the back yard is going to work out!

I am frustrated about this b/c I feel a we had to sign and initial some papers that we are aware of an airport in our are (Dulles) and known power lines. We never had to sign for this "box" and we were not made aware of it. I have looked back into our contract and I see nothing.

We even signed something for the HOA that we are aware NO satellite dishes in the neighborhood.

 TIA

  • It shouldnt hurt anything... here the city puts in the boxes and we just have to work around them. It sounds like the box is for several homes and you ended up being the unlucky one to have it in your yard. So sorry Tongue Tied

  • It sucks that you may end up with one in your yard. Since the electric supply is not managed by the developer, they may not have any say in where the boxes go and may not be able to do anything about it. Nonetheless, it sure doesn't hurt to ask! If it does end up staying in your yard, maybe you could put a nice fence around it to screen it from view?
  • I am guessing most likely it is there to stay.  If it is really upsetting to you, then I would see if another lot was available that does not have one.

We have one in the back our town home that took me forever to notice, because the builder had landscaped a hedge around it that still allows access if needed but blocks it from view and my kids.
