DH and I have been talking about TTC this fall. I'm currently taking BC. I had been trying to schedule my annual exam w/a new doc for next month but after they called me back originally to say they weren't booking into July yet, they then didn't return my calls and now are booked until August. I haven't really read up much on this subject (I don't want to make myself crazy "trying") but I've heard that it takes a few months after stopping taking the pill for your body to be able to get pregnant. Do you think I should not refill my prescription in 2 weeks when it's up? Should i keep taking it until I can talk to my doctor about this?
I feel like the biggest tool writing this, I honestly have no idea what I'm talking about. Makes me a little nervous!!

I'm with everyone else on this! I didn't know there was soo much involved in TTC. I haven't checked out temping yet, but I just stopped taking my BC and if it happens, it happens. That's what we're doing at this moment.
As for your BC, I agree with everyone else. My doctor told me not to stop taking my BC until we were ready. She said you are just as fertile if not more fertile right after stopping your BC.
TTC since June 2012
The hubs and I stopped preventing (like stopped my BC) in January and were pg by April, so I'd say the 2 month mark is for real and if you are going to start actively TTC in a few months you might as well go off of your BC now. I mean, what's the difference between getting pg now and then? Plus, I went in for a pre-conception appt and we just discussed risks with the medications that I take for my back and what I should do when we do find out we are pg. No tests or anything like that were run for me (but I've been seeing the same Dr 2x a yr since I was 16) so there really wasn't much else to discuss. Plus, once you do get pg, they usually won't schedule your first appt until you are at least 8-10 weeks along. There is all kinds of craziness that comes along with actively TTC including temping, tracking your ovulation cycle, menstrual cycle etc which could take a month or two to get down too. I don't have the patience, dedication, or drive for all of that tedious stuff!!! Ugh, I'd drive myself crazing with that. I couldn't handle it at all! I'm glad we got pg as easily as we did!
EDIT: Oh, and mad props to the gals out there doing all of the temping, etc to get their BFP & their LO. I have a lot of respect for y'all. I don't want y'all to think I'm insensitive to the fact that getting pg is not an easy task for everyone, and I completely understand that and have friends who have had a really hard time. Plus, it may not be so easy for us the next go around. So, again, mad props to those of you out there who are TTC. Keep it up!
I agree that you'd be fine to stop now, but that if you guys aren't ready to get pregnant yet to use a back-up BC until you are ready. I would advise you to start Prenatal vitamins as soon as you go off your BCP if you're not already on them.
I'm in a similar situation. H and I were planning on waiting until October to try. When I saw my OB-GYN and went over things with her, she told me I could stay on BCP until we were TTC, but to not worry if it took 3-6 months for my ovaries to "wake up". But I got impatient and we decided that this month's BCP pack would be the last one I take.
We're just going to see what happens for the first four or five months, and if nothing does I'll start charting and temping. Like a PP said, I didn't realize how much went into TTC, how difficult it could be, or how long it could take until I got onto the Trying to Get Pregnant board.
I'm a little worried because it hasn't happened yet, but am not making myself or DH crazy about it.
