vibes for Toby

Thursday we noticed that Toby had started limping... which for him really isn't unusual, there have been a few times that he's come home with a little bit of a limp that was gone in a matter of hours and we never figured out why. He and Lily have a bad habit of getting in with the cows and pissing them off, so we usually just assume it was from a cow or the like.

I checked out his leg and it didn't seem to be bothering him much. He didn't whine or anything when I touched it, and there was a little scab on the top that didn't look infected, so we figured that we would watch him closely and decide what to do about it if he didn't get better.

Friday we was still limping so I called the vet. She couldn't get us in until today and told us to apply the same kind of antibiotics that we use for horse sores on his leg, but if the leg didn't seem painful to touch it would probably heal on it's own.

FF to today, it's still not better and he isn't even trying to put weight on it so I'm taking him in. I'm really worried that it might be broken even though it still doesn't seem like he's in pain when we touch it. I still don't know what the scab was from, but it is pretty much healed anyway, it looks more like he got caught in barbed wire than a bite of any kind.

So if we could get some vibes for Toby they would be greatly appreciated!

Re: vibes for Toby

  • That is too bad.  Hopefully he didn't break it.

Naismith was born with a defective knee and had to have surgery when Parker was a month old.  It was scary.  My hormones were crazy still too so I can only imagine what you are going through!

    Keep us updated!

  • Poor thing...

Cricket's been limping too. She had major leg surgery 5 years ago when she was 2... I think it's starting to act up on her now. :( It's gotten slightly better slowly so hoping it heals on its own...

    Hang in there

  • I hope he is ok. Sending good thoughts your way. Keep us posted!

  • Thanks girls. As it turns out there was a hairline fracture near his wrist that didnt look too bad, but the real reason he was limping so bad was a disconnected bone in his wrist. It was twisted way back, no wonder he wasn't using it!! I feel so guilty that he's had to deal with it for nearly a week. They splinted and casted his arm, which he'll have to have for at least the next two weeks. Thankfully there is no cone of shame involved lol. Apparently they don't like to give outside dogs the cones unless they are really chewing at the cast, which he doesn't seem to be doing. He also got his boosters today, so he is NOT a big fan of the vet lol.

  • Glad it was something that could be easily taken care of. Vibes for a quick recovery.
