Hey ladies.. so question... summer storms.. scary or cool?
I personally HATE them... we are currently sitting in a thunderstorm watch and tornado warning. I live in Canada... in the middle of the Praries... thunderstorms are pretty common tornados tho.. not so much. I've been terrified of storms since I was little, it's really my biggest fear. When I was little i'd burst into tears, now at 24, not so much, but I do get very anxious... just don't think the unpredictability of it all.
Just thought i'd get your opinions!
Re: Storms!
I'm one of those crazy people that doesn't know when to come in out of the rain. My H (then BF) and I were on our first trip together, sitting next to a lake watching a storm roll in. We were under shelter, so I didn't mind being outside watching it. He couldn't take it anymore and went inside, and a few minutes later - seeing how close the lightning was getting - decided I needed to come in too. In another life, I probably could have been a storm chaser. Sounds like we're on opposite ends of the scale!
My Blog:Through My Eyes
I LOVE thunderstorms! I hate being caught in the rain, but I really enjoy being "stranded" at home during a storm. I find it very peaceful, and it's when I sleep the best! Tornados on the other hand... not so much! We are constantly in tornado watches/warnings (I live in Kansas!). So far, we haven't had a tornado hit my area, so I'm very thankful. I have seen mass destruction in surrounding areas, though.
OP, T&P that the tornado misses your area!!
I have a love/hate relationship with storms... I LOVE watching them over water, and they were definitely a highlight of my summers at camp. All of us counselors used to hang out on the porch of the lodge, looking over the lake and watch the thunder. So cool.
But.. my poor pup hates storms, so I hate them for him, now. He gets so so nervous, and shakes, and whimpers, and cries, and tries to get under the bed. Our new(ish) bed has drawers underneath, so he has to go into the guest room where there is an 'under the bed.' But then we started storing our off-season clothes in bins under the bed, and now he can barely fit his head under there. Poor guy. It makes us so so sad.
I LOVE storms...thunder storms, rain storms, snow storms. We don't get tornadoes here (near Boston/Cape Cod). Although, last year the western part of the state got hit with a massive freak tornado.
But, I love hearing the thunder rolling in and watch the lightening. Mother nature is just awesome. And you can't control her! We had a pretty big storm yesterday, and I was caught in it for a bit, but spent the day in watching it rain and watching HGTV.
I also love snow storms, as long as I don't have to drive in it when there are more than 6" because people get stupid. Actually, there will just barely be snow flakes and people freak out. It's New England people! It's supposed to snow! Lol.
HATE THEM!!! Thank goodness our house is almost sound proof so that I don't ever hear them. I don't mind seeing them I just don't wanna hear them.
Snow storms would be amazing but since I live in Louisiana I doubt I will ever see that. But I think that is one storm I'd be okay with.
I also hate being without power during a storm. And being without power during the summer because it gets way too hot here for all that.
I love thunder and lightning, I think its really cool! I've never been afraid of them (even as a kid) I remember being at the beach during lightning storms, hangnig out on the porch and watching the storm over the ocean, its really cool to see!
We don't get tornados up here in MA, if we did I'd probably be terrified of those.
Snow storms, we get a lot of...and since it brings in $ for H's business, I'm forced to like them, but I hate shoveling!

Oh, that was definitely no fun. I would be okay without doing that ever again. We lost power during the Halloween snow storm week, not the rain storm, although the rain storm took out a few trees around our house (one of which took out our neighbors roof).
I spent a few years in St. Louis, and it really surprised me how normal Tornado warnings were there. People treated them like we treat Hurricane wanrings in CT. As soon as I figured out what that siren was for, I was hiding in my bathtub every time
I know how you feel!! I have anxieties which is why they freak me out! I am a lot better and controling it than I was when I was younger but there is still that thought in the back of my mind.
Snow storms I can deal with.. being in the prairies we get a TON of snow some winters.. I love snow!
It's the thunder/lightning/tornados that freak me out to no end. I'm fairly certain it comes from when I was little (like 2) and there was a huge hail storm with lots of thunder and lightining and I got really scared then.
My dog doesn't seem to mind storms too much, he gets pretty whiny when the weather changes and the pressure changes, but when a storm hits he (luckily) pretty much just sleeps through it!
i LOVE storms!! i grew up on the NC coast and we went through a period when i was in middle/high school where we were getting blasted with these really bad hurricanes. it was great! i love the excitement of getting prepped for them, riding out the storm, driving around and seeing all the damage (i realize i'm sick haha). one time our house got flooded and we had to live with my grandma for a couple weeks while the damage was fixed.
now, DH and i will sit on the porch/balcony and watch the lightening and we get really excited about it.
i used to want to be a tornado chaser when i was a kid, i've never seen one in real life, i'd like to though.
we felt our first earthquake in new zealand while we were on our honeymoon, it was a little tremor, but the guy at the hotel said it was the biggest one they'd had in a few months. it was a scary sort of excitement.
i think it's the whole adrenaline thing, and the power of these natural storms/disasters is the sort of thing that can't be matched, i don't know what it is, but i love it.

I don't love or hate storms but I like them a lot more if I don't have to go out in them! I worked at a grocery store in high school and then I HATED storms! One mention of a snow flake and people went crazy like it was the apocalypse!
I live in New England so we mostly deal with hurricanes and snow storms. Although last year, an area not far from me in Western Mass got hit with a tornado! It was pretty crazy since it's so out of character for the weather here. I also remember there was an earthquake once when I was growing up in Rhode Island. It was no big deal though, it felt like a really big truck or something was driving by.
