We adopted a rescue dog over the weekend. His name is Fleetwood, he's a five-year-old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.
Woody, as my husband is calling him, was rescued from a puppy mill about three months ago by a rescue group based out of northern Delaware. This poor little boy has a host of issues -- he's been debarked, has an ulcer in one eye (he might be blind in that eye), has stained fur and skin from being caged in his own filth for so many years, and he's appropriate terrified of most things. He's not housebroken or leash-trained, so we have a lot of work to do with him. Unrelated to the abuse at the puppy mill, he also has a grade five heart murmur (which are common for the breed).
However, he's very sweet and he's actually doing a lot better for only being with us for 48 hours than we expected. My husband is totally spoiling him already (See his new bed in the picture below, even though we had a perfectly good dog bed not being used already). We have another little dog, Porter, who is not exactly thrilled about this new guy, but is not fighting with him or anything. It's more than Fleetwood wants to be Porter's best friend and Porter is actively ignoring his existence.
