A few Cricut questions.

Hi ladies! Sorry if this has been asked a million times.

Would you ladies go onto ebay or amazon or another site to find a Cricut, or would you go into an actual store to pick one up? Would you buy a reconditioned Cricut?

Also, if you bought yours online, which site? Do they ever have deals on the machines themselves?

Which one do you have? Have you upgraded/switched?

Do any of you use your Cricut to make things like invitations and announcements to sell on etsy or another site, or just on your own?

Thanks!

Hi ladies! Sorry if this has been asked a million times.

Would you ladies go onto ebay or amazon or another site to find a Cricut, or would you go into an actual store to pick one up? Would you buy a reconditioned Cricut? see below

Also, if you bought yours online, which site? Do they ever have deals on the machines themselves? mine was a gift

Which one do you have? Have you upgraded/switched? i have the original expression, have not upgraded the cricut, but switched to the silhouette machine. still use the cricut for cutting felt and chipboard

Do any of you use your Cricut to make things like invitations and announcements to sell on etsy or another site, or just on your own? never sold anything on any sites, i think that market is really saturated...i was just making stuff for my friends/family and have expanded that slightly into making stuff for friends of friends

    Thanks!

first i'll ask if you're 100% sold on buying a cricut? i know they are the die cutting machine that is the most heavily marketed, but they are not the best by far. the cricut is a cartridge based system, so if there's only one image you want (say a balloon or a onesie) you'd have to find which cartridge had it, and buy it. you can get carts for $25 or less on ebay. if you do decide on a cricut, i'd probably look on ebay or overstock as opposed to buying from a craft store ($$$$)

if you're new to die cutting, i'd look at the silhouette cameo or the sizzix eclips...heres a link to some of the other machines available http://die-cutting-machines-review.toptenreviews.com/  i wouldn't necessarily agree with all of their reviews, but its a good place to start.

  • I got my Expression from cricut.com on Black Friday. It was like $179, and I got 3 carts with it. Cricutmachine.com usually has deals on them. They also have refurbished ones. HTH!

This! PLEASE! Consider other (way better) machines that don't bog you down w/ expensive carts that you may only use half of the images.  Check out Klik-n-Kut, Black Cat Cutters in addition to Silhouette.  The machines may be more expensive than Crapcuts, but the cutting quality and exceptional customer service and support make them the best.

BTW- I have a KNK Zing and can't tell you how much I value the support on MTC forums and technical support from the CREATORS of the machine and software.  I originally got a Crapcut Personal as a gift, but quickly learned that shelling out even for the cheapest carts on ebay or cricutmachine.com added up quickly and I was able to purchase MTC software before the lawsuit.  For my birthday I was able to preorder the Zing and couldn't be happier with it.  I wish I could get a Cameo as well...I've heard lots and lots of good reviews for it.

I recommend you to do your research on other machines before investing.

     Mine came from Wal-Mart.

I do sell things, mostly birthday packages (banners, table decor, cupcake sticks) and decal items, for cars and tons of other things. I list everything on FB, but I do have a blog as well.

Also, all of this. Those two machines are a great place to start, and I wouldn't venture onto a black cat or other large cutting machine until you've played around with a smaller, cheaper one until you're sure you're going to use it long term. I have a cricut, and keep eyeing a cameo because the cricut is great since I was lucky enough to get SCAL before it was banned on the cricut, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't choose the cricut again.

  • I bought mine of ebay and it works perfectly fine. Just make sure if you go that route that you read their feedback and description closely.

  • I got a personal cricut about 5 years ago as a gift. I now use it to make items that I sell on Etsy.  However, I do have a 3rd party software program that allows a lot more use and variability in what I can do (which is not supported by the cricut's makers) along with a handful of cartridges.

I've looked into getting another machine (like a Silhouette) but cannot justify to spend the money when I'm doing well enough in my business to learn something new.

However, I would suggest researching other cutting machines if you are just starting out.  Good luck!
