Freecycle

I swear some people must think if they give you their life story or a sob story you will be more likely to pick them to give your stuff too.

How do you choose who you give your things too?

I just got rid of three big bags of stuff.  I'm sick of consigning and yard sales are too much work.  I feel better giving stuff away on freecycle, especially when I know its going to someone who will actually use it.

Re: Freecycle

  • I have some much stuff I need to get rid of. I haven't even tried Freecycle. I actually have the purple heart coming tomorrow to pick six bags of stuff, plus a bike and some camping equipment.

I'm amazed at how much stuff two people can collect in six years of marriage.

  • Actually I am more likely to give it away to someone who gives me a sob story on why they need it.

My FC is filled with rude people who just respond back "i want this" or "still available?". Really people, just take an extra 30 seconds and form a real, sincere response.

Generally, I give a little bit of time for people to see the listing then i give it to whomever seems like they could use it the most, and isn't a greedy vulture trying to turn around and sell it.

  • I usually immediately delete the people that respond with "I want this" "I need this" or "What's the address".  When I post I usually ask for people to let me know their availability.  Generally I give it to the person that is available first.  I don't mind a short "My kid could really use this for a school project" type explanation but I hate the sob stories and usually delete those.

  • I never go with the rude people; but when I'm freecycling stuff it's usually because I'm sick of looking at something and want it gone asap - so whoever can come soonest and isn't obnoxious usually wins out.

  • If someone asks in a nice manner and you can tell there would be some appreciation, then I choose them. There are so many that will just say "I want it, can pick up in 1 hour" or something like that, I will delete those immediately
