Displaying wedding pictures

I am a picture 'freak'! I have photos all over my house, not in a tacky way. I just love the memories! And I am absolutely in love with our wedding photos. I've read stuff and people are like dont display a wedding shrine in your house, when guests come to your house they dont want to see pictures of you blah blah blah. I'm like its MY house and my wedding was BEAUTIFUL. I would seriously put all 905 picutres of my wedding up if I could! ;)

So I wanna see pics of how or know how you girls plan on displaying your wedding pics. A good ol photo album on the coffee table will NOT do it for me. I'm thinking big canvases haha!

Re: Displaying wedding pictures

  • I currently have pictures of H and I hung around the house and a whole book self of family pictures. He often tells me I am vain for having them up of just myself and him. I tell him that they are pictures of our family and that once we have kids they will be the main pictures up but until then I will display pictures of us. I can't wait until I get our wedding pictures back and put them up.

I personally love seeing peoples wedding pictures displayed at their house. I mean what else are you going to do with them. I agree having them in an album just isn't enough.

  • that's right!  it's YOUR house, you do what you want girl.  i love the canvases and we'll probably do a few of our favs like that.  we haven't started decorating the new place yet (for various reasons) so i don't have pics to show you, but i would suggest maybe not putting your wedding pics in the guest bedroom/bathroom... but you know, like you said, it's your house!  haha

I completely agree with you! It is your house and you can put pictures any where you want :) I've heard other things like that on the 'Decorating & Renovating' board where people think you shouldn't put pictures in your entry way or living room cause guests don't want to see them. To me that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. What else are you supposed to do with them?! Hid them in the closet! I don't think so :)

That being said, I have pictures EVERYWHERE in our house! Our entry way wall is a gallery with 7 pictures - both wedding and engagement, we have pictures throughout the living room, on the mantel and even in our bathroom (pictures of our puppies anyways). I love all the memories we've made together and I want to show them off! I've made a scrapbook and it's out on the coffee table but it's not quite the same. If someone wants to complain about how I display my pictures, well, they know where the door is :)

  • I love it when I go to friends' homes and they have their wedding pics displayed!   Once we get into our house, I'll definitely be displaying some.
  • I think EVERYONE should have at least one photo from their wedding displayed in their living room. We plan to have some hung up on our mantel and then arrange them in large frames on either side of our living room windows so 10 in frames in our living room. I think it's perfectly okay to have them displayed in your house. I'm sure overtime you will replace some of them with newer images of you and your family/DH.

Once we make our wedding album on Mixbook that will be on our coffee table, I mean I spent tons of money on our photographer for a reason... so I can look at the picture ANYTIME I want, or guests that visit want.

When my mom was second guessing my wedding photographer saying how many people's houses do you go into and see their wedding photos... i.e. why spend so much when no one sees them. Why don't people display them?! Seriously.

I agree with this!  I think houses with no photos up are boring.  I don't care how beautifully decorated - just boring!  We're going to put plenty of ours around the house.  I love going to other people's houses and looking at all their photos.

  • People are silly.

I am making a gallery wall with probably 6 wedding pics and 6 other pics (with just me and H, some with our friends, some with family, etc) and I'm sure I'll change the pics over time, but I love looking at pictures!

  • Unless you are selling your house, I say put up all the pictures you want! I think photos tell a story and what's important to you. Once I have photos from our photographer, I plan to put up pictures and also make a book. IMO, a book isn't enough!

I did something very similar to this on our mantle. The tall picture in the back is actually hanging vertically. It currently has a photo of the Eiffel Tower, but I plan to put a picture of the lighthouse where our wedding was in it. The middle picture will have some kind pic of us in it, and the third pic is our sand ceremony frame that has an e-pic in it. I might change it out. On the left of the photos, I have a lantern from our center pieces and our cake topper.

At any rate, you pay alot of money for these pictures, why wouldn't you want to share them? I like going into peoples houses and seeing pictures!

  • Thanks for all of the responses ladies!!! Would be awesome to see future posts of how you girls are displaying your wedding photos! So as soon as I get some up I will post pics! :)

  • I'm gonna get beat up for saying it, but I am always a little weirded out by people's houses who are chock full of wedding pictures everywhere. I can understand designating a wall, or a shelf, but when they are everywhere it can feel a bit clausterphobic to people who don't share those memeories.Having said that, I can't wait to get our pictures back because right now our stairway is in desperate need of pictures, When I moved in I just stuck up pictures I had before to fill the space, but they are mostly of me and my friends/family and none of H, and that makes me sad, so the stair well and the office will probably become our "wedding picture areas" with one or 2 smaller 5x7's in frames in the living room.
  • I am a picture freak...I love them...i love them all over the place...love going to people homes with pictures...and we got so many beautiful picture frame sets and I love almost ever picture our wedding photag did I dont care how tacky it is our house has them all over the place but its not just me and him...its a mix with our friends and family...why wouldn't you want to display your love ones in the place you love the most?!
