I have been trying everything humanly possible to contact the House Rabbit Society that has the Flemish Giants that glittergirl just posted about. Its been a good week since I first contacted them and just like 2 years ago I got no response. 2 years ago I tried over the course of 7 weeks before finally giving up and going to a breeder where I got my Harry Bun!
Anyway, today I went to a lady that had litters of Flemish Giants posted on Craigslist, she breeds them as well as tons of other very large breeds. My intention was to go, pick and pay for one and then come back to get her after my trip to Germany.
Well when I got there my stomach turned. The conditions were HORRIBLE. There were so many rabbits in flimpsy cages in this little dirty (heck dirty doesnt even begin to describe it) barn. A bunch of the cages were stacked on top of each other and the pan's were missing. The rabbits that peed on the top cages not only peed all over the place but also straight down into the other cages. I saw pee dripping right onto the babies underneath. It was horrible.
One mommy bun just died from the heat (yeah she just told me that as if it was nothing) another one in there was sneezing. Needless to say, I did pick one but took her home immediately. I wish I could have taken more.
I cried my eyes out the entire way home and just called Frederick County Animal Control to report her (had to leave a message).
If anyone here wants/can take a rabbit that gets about 20 pounds, PLEASE contact me ASAP. She had over 100 rabbits. If they get taken then I am afraid that a lot of them will end up being euthanized. I am not sure if there are enough rescues for this many rabbits but I also can not NOT report this. I am still in tears!
Re: Maybe I should have more faith in the fact that everything happens for a reason!
I did tons of research on bonding two rabbits and according to my knowledge, the first meeting actually looked promising. It says if they ignore eachother at first it is actually a good sign. I only had to break up a fight a couple of times and each time Harry stopped as soon as I stepped in, he did not try to keep fighting.. as a matter of fact he didnt even seem to be biting, it looked more like he was trying to scare the crap out of her.
So all in all good start.. wish me luck (video below)
