Maternity pics and Facebook

What are your thoughts about maternity pictures on Facebook? Although I think it's fun to see pictures of a growing belly, I'm always a little taken back when I see someone's bare, pregnant stomach on Facebook. Particularly some of the more intimately posed maternity ones I've seen.

Am I just old fashioned?

Re: Maternity pics and Facebook

  • I am not a fan of maternity pictures so I agree with you. My cousin and her bf had maternity pictures done and she made the belly shot with their hands making a heart her FB banner recently, it is creepy. It is especially creepy because the baby is 5 months old.

  • Not a fan. But I was never a fan of people posting them here on the Nest either.

Look, yes it's an exciting time, but I don't need it in my face every time I open FB/Nest.

FWIW, I would also give the side eye to "posed" bikini photos of yourself as well.

  • Yes, there are a lot of hand hearts in maternity photos. It's sweet, but I don't know, I think the impact on a covered belly is just as sweet and slightly less jarring (for Facebook anyway). Maybe I'm just jealous b/c I had stretch marks Stick out tongue

Seriously though, a guy I dated in college has pics with his current wife on there where she's hugely pregnant and literally nekked from the waist up and he's cupping her bare breasts. That's an extreme case, but it just seems so personal for public display.

  • Ditto Clare,

But I do think its a beautiful think to take and keep to yourself.

  • Just bare belly doesn't bother me at all. I think that is cute!

But there are some very intimate maternity pics (ie...naked and just some fabric draped or nothing and hands over chest)  that I wouldn't put up on fb.

    Definitely too much sharing!

Yeah too much. I am the first to say that I love seeing a pregnant belly but I am a fan with clothes over it-not a fan bare and esp not posed like some of those you mentioned!

  • I'm not really a fan of those intimate maternity photos to begin with...so I don't think they should be all over FB.   I am still debating on vacation pics to post because I am being very choosy of any of me in my bathing suit...and I wear a one piece.

Ick! ok, that should not be for public eyes.  I might also be slightly jaded because of my stretch marks.

Grounds for unfriending, IMO.  That's nasty to share on FB.

Personally I didn't share any bare belly stuff because it was not cute at all to me.  I thought my big belly had a weird shape.

Gross.  I don't need to see that much of any of my FB friends.  I know that pregnancy is natural and beautiful, but I just don't care to see bare bellies.  And I really don't care to see your ultrasound picture, particularly as your cover photo...I've resigned myself to seeing it as a picture in an album, but those are easier to avoid.  I think pregnancy is weird, and although H and I want to have at least one biological child, there are aspects of it that will always make me queasy. I do think that people taking pictures of their growing belly and posting it are cute, when they are clothed.

HAHA!  that is so awesome / ridiculous!!  I wouldn't defriend, I would keep him around for entertainment value.

You couldn't have paid me to have maternity pictures done, so I'm with you on that. A fully clothed belly fine, but some of the more artsy, often naked, maternity photos are NMS.

Ditto.  Bare belly doesn't bother me, it also doesn't bother me to see pregnant women in bikinis.  But the picture Mandy described?? YIKES!  Pregnant or not, I don't need to see that!!!  Tongue Tied

Glad somebody else is ok with bare bellies! I'm surprised at all the bare belly hate in general. Totally understand it for nude ones but otherwise I wouldn't even think twice about it but I guess I just think pregnant bellies are cool!!

My cousin lives at the beach and had tons of bikini pregnant shots and she looked so cute! Loved them.  And if maternity photos have some bare belly otherwise clothed I think those are great. I did some maternity photos for a friend and she didn't want many bare belly but we did a couple. Like one of her daughter kissing her bare belly and I thought that was adorable (and I posted them on Facebook for her...eek!)

  • Actually, his wife friended me and it's on her account. Which makes it even weirder (especially since I don't know her well at all). I keep her around though, b/c she is definitely one of my more entertaining FB friends!

I'm okay with U/S photos, but I agree they aren't my fav as profile pictures. It's just too small to even see anything in that context.

I don't know why, I just find the bare belly to be too revealing. I also wouldn't put a picture of myself in a bikini on Facebook, so I definitely wouldn't be inclined to stick my belly on there if I was 8 months pregnant.

  • Bare, pregnant belly aside, I don't find your husband holding your bare boobs to be FB material.  YOU ARE NOT JANET JACKSON.

Ha! That I certainly agree with!

  • I am ok with bellies!!

I did post some bare belly pics but my breast were always covered.  even in the one with fabric (which I am not sure that was one on there...) I actually had a shirt under it- not that anyone else knew that, but I guess knowing that made me comfotable.

I was very happy with my belly and the way my pictures turned out, I didnt not have strech marks...

BUT I also didnt have the option to have such a LARGE picture posted on FB!...

  • I had maternity pics taken and my photographer did post sneak peeks on FB.  It wasn't anything like Mandy described...but, the shots she did show with a naked belly was one with a bow on it (all you saw was belly, the bottom of my shirt, and the top of my pants.), and one or two where Parker was painting my tummy.  I had a shirt and pants on, Parker had a diaper on, and he was painting my tummy with colored soap.  I still think it was cute.  :)  That being said...pregnant bellies don't disturb me, not even on FB.  But, ones that are clearly "artsy" and where the mommy is naked just don't do anyone justice as far as I'm concerned.  But, who am I to judge?
  • I never posted belly shots on FB, but that was mostly because I felt I looked generally awful throughout my pregnancy.

Strangely enough though, I think pregnant bellies and maternity photos are beautiful and it doesn't bother me to see them on facebook.  Even most of the artsy ones.
