(not related, but I'm sad this board is so slow recently... I used to love coming on here daily and reading about pets, but now I can go almost a week and still see the same topics on the first page! Where did everyone go?)
Cliffnotes version of a long story- the dog we adopted 6 months ago pukes often. Randomly, usually acts fine right after, and it would be just one puke and he's done. I'd say he pukes 2x a month. (which is a lot to me, considering our other dog has maybe puked 2x in 3 years).
Well after another bad episode (there have been two bad episodes) of all nigh pukes/diareha that turned bloody, we found ourselves back at the vet only to find out they think he either has HGE, (Hemorrhagic GastroEnteritis) or he's allergic to the chicken in the food we feed. Blood was drawn, and although there's no way to officialy diagnose HGE, they don't think it's that due to some certain cells/enzymes being normal, and having a high number of that cell/enzyme is usually an indicator of HGE.
So now we're starting to switch over to a new food. The vet recommended a Salmon based food. He gave us a starter bag of Science Diet potato and salmon, but said he doesn't have to stay on Science Diet, as long as it's a good salmon based food.
So my questions
1) Does anyone have experience w a dog w/ HGE? They don't think it's that, but if you have any advice regarding HGE, I'd like to hear it.
2) What salmon food do you recommend?

HGE is kind of unknown as to what causes it. Thankfully resting the digestive system (no food or water for a day or two) plus IV foods typically clears it right up. Antibiotics are typically used tell help prevent a secondary infection.
since there is no known cause its hard to predict if and when it will reoccur.
My pittie is allergic to chicken. We have used Orijen 6 Fish, Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream, and Wellness CORE Ocean.
We're currently feeding Fromm Pork and Applesauce, which is chicken-free but not fish-based, though Fromm has two fish-based formulas, Salmon and Whitefish.

I don't believe so. I think it was just a suggestion as he said 'it'll do his coat good too', even though he doesn't have bad skin... But I'll definately look into Wellness, Fromm and Orijen. Thanks guys!
Oh, eggs didn't even occur to me. Carl gets itchy paws from chicken meal or chicken fat, but eggs in kibble don't bother him.
Hilo is allergic to chicken...nothing as severe as what your dog is going through, but he breaks out and itches all over his body. He gets raw beef and beef organs with a little Orijen 6 fish to give him the fish oils that he needs for a shiny, not dried, coat. We tried TOTW pacific stream...the ingredients look great but something in it makes him break out too, but I would still give it a shot since it's so much cheaper than Orijen.
