DH, DS, and myself are going to Asheville, NC next month for a week. We are renting a home & will probably do things at a slower pace since we will be bringing along DS who is 6 months old. I'm in the process of planning our days so I have a few questions about the area.
1. How long is needed at the Biltmore?
2. Would it be worth it to drive to the Great Smoky Mountain National park? We would be entering from Cherokee, NC.
3. Is Mount Mitchell doable with a baby?
4. What are the best waterfalls, trails, and parks in the area?
5. We will be eating most dinners at our rental but does anyone have any ideas for breakfast and lunches out?
Thanks!!

Question 4- Grandfather Mountain and Chimney Rock Park
http://www.grandfather.com/
http://www.chimneyrockpark.com/
Married the love of my life on 1-21-12. Our princess arrived on 5-28-13.
I live about 45 mins from there..
1. It will take a better part of a day to really explore it
2. The park is great but i would rather ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are tons of places to pull over on the parkway. If you enter the GSM Park in Cherokee its really just a forest that you drive through. But Cherokee is a neat place to visit.
3. Its doable but I dont think its the most fun place in the world, but I dont really like to hike
4. I also love Chimney Rock/Lake Lure area, I also think Hendersonville is a great town to visit, the downtown area is nice.
5. Barleys in downtown Asheville is really good, you could also have a good meal at the Grove Park Inn you may have to make reservations.
Let me know if you have other questions.
1. How long is needed at the Biltmore? I'd recommend 4 or 5 hours. Depending on how busy it is, it'll take about 2 hours for the house itself. In addition to that, you'll want to go through the conservatory and explore the ground. The food on the property is very good. A large portion of the ingredients are actually raised/grown on the grounds. Don't forget to stop at the winery for your free wine tasting. No limit to the number you try
2. Would it be worth it to drive to the Great Smoky Mountain National park? We would be entering from Cherokee, NC.The drive through Cherokee is very pretty, but I don't know that I'd bother going all the way out there. Like PP said, I'd just hop on the Blue Ridge and explore.
3. Is Mount Mitchell doable with a baby?Haven't done this hike, so I can't comment...sorry!
4. What are the best waterfalls, trails, and parks in the area?Chimney Rock is great, but I recommend Dupont State Forest. There are several waterfalls and great hikes of varying lengths/difficulties.
5. We will be eating most dinners at our rental but does anyone have any ideas for breakfast and lunches out? If you like beer, Asheville has a huge craft beer scene. Babies are very welcome at the breweries
I'd try Lexington Avenue Brewing downtown for decent beer and great lunch. For breakfast, try City Bakery downtown. Tupelo Honey and Early Girl are good for breakfast, but they're always packed.
Enjoy your trip!RSVP Date: February 12
