Re: Internal Debate: WWYD (long)

  • That is one of the crappiest things I have heard lately pertaining to jobs. That blows.

Is there anyway to save the settings and keep them where only you can access them (like on an external hard drive)? That way you can delete it with a clear conscience (of sorts).

I mean he sounds like he is being an ass so why would I want to help someone like that? Especially if I am getting the short end of the stick and he may delete/ alter everything anyways. Having a back- up of your own means that if they ask if you saved anything or brought you back then you don't have to start over either.

Granted I know nothing of music or programs you use. I would probably just leave the mixes that are saved anyways (cuz it may be a good thing to be the bigger person).

  • Initially I wanted to say to delete them, but what if he doesn't work out and you have to get back on the monitors (and he doesn't delete your settings)?  You might be making extra work for yourself.

It's a tough call, but if you can't save them at all and then delete, it might be best to leave them.  You never know what might happen in a few weeks.

  • I'd save them if you can and then delete them. Like PP said, you never know what's going to happen in a few weeks.

  • Yep I can save them to a USB I just need to get and adapter for the card. Totally worth the $20 it might cost.

Yes I was definately going to suggest saving them for yourself, just incase you get back into that position.  I'm sorry about all that!  That sucks!  I hope that they realize you need to be in the position & they change it asap!

Just catching up here, and I say do this.  Especially if he's such a jerk that he told you he's deleting HIS current settings for the new guy, then he deserves to start from scratch at your job.

And as I believe I've stated her before, I think this whole situation is sucky.  But at least you get more money (to enjoy while you look for a new job).

  • I would absolutely back the files up for sure. As for completely deleting them, I'm stumped as to what you should do. First off, yes it would be better to be "the bigger person", but if he said he's deleting stuff then I'd say go for it. BUT, be careful here. Are you sure that anything created while at work isn't considered the company's thereby making you look really bad for destroying company property? Just a thought...I know I considered doing something like that a few years back, but it clearly stated in the company policy that things like that were essentially the company's and people could be "prosecuted to the full extent of the law" for damaging files, etc.

I'm contract labor/self-employed. The company isn't technically providing me with anything other than the console. I mean, I highly doubt that anything like that would ever come up. Idk.  I bought a flash card though so I'm set to save to that.
