Any Elementary School Teachers out there?

I am interviewing for a 4th grade position tomorrow and I since I have taught mostly sp.ed I am somewhat unfamilair with elementary type of questions.  Any would be appreciated!  TIA!

Re: Any Elementary School Teachers out there?

  • I am an elementary school counselor.  I teach social skills.

I was asked for my interview questions that I would assume are similar to a teacher:

     1. What type of students do you prefer to work with?

    2. How would you communicate with other teachers/staff/parents.

    3. What was your last CPS call and how did you handle it?

    4. Are you familiar with _____________________

    5. Describe your experiences in a school

The rest were pretty counseling specific.

I googled a list of possible questions. HERE they are.

     Good Luck!

  • Check out the school/district's website.  See what you can find out about their curriculum, school dicipline policy, etc.  We ask about differentiated instruction, experience with ESOl students (my school has a very high population), how comfortable you are with data, what you do when a lesson isn't going well, what you do when you have a student who already knows the material/doesn't get it even after re-teaching, etc.

FWIW, I've never ever been asked when my last CPS call was nor what type of students I prefer to work with--you don't really get a choice.

  • I teach 1st grade.

I think it is really important to be able to answer

-What is your philosophy on education?

-How do you create a positive, safe classroom environment?

-How do you build and maintain relationships with families?

-What is your classroom management style?

-How do you teach reading, math, writing, etc? (i.e. do you do Balanced Literacy, Guided Reading, etc.)

-Tell a situation that you worked with another difficult adult (colleague or a parent.)  What was the situation, how did you handle it, and what would you do differently in the future?

    -What is your biggest strength?

-What is an area you are working to grow in (instructionally)?
