babysitter rates-2 kids

I know this has been brought up before, but what is the going rate for babysitters? The last time someone outside of the family babysat for us, it was just for one kid.

One of the teachers at the kids daycare is able to do it for us, yay!!  Here are the details: we'll be at a wedding, so it's going to be most of the day that she'll be at the house with them (probably from around 2pm-11pm or so).  She'll have both kids and have to give them dinner and put them to bed around 8pm.

Feel free to vote in the clicky poll and/or leave comments below :)

I did, but no direct answer was given!

The lone time I had a sitter, I paid $10/hour for 1 kid, but it was my cousin watching Jackson, and I felt generous. I think $10-12 per hour is reasonable...this just reminds me why we rarely go out using a sitter. It gets expensive so quickly.

  • I think $10 is fine. Yes, putting them to bed might be tricky, but she'll also have 2-3 hours to relax after they are in bed.

  • We had a non family babysitter a total of once.  It was a HS girl who worked at the daycare after school.  She said her rate for 2 kids was $9.00.  We ended up paying her a little more because:

    1.  It was worth more to us

     2.  We wanted her to come back next time we needed her

  • We pay $10/hr, but round up to the next $10 denomination since we LOVE / ADORE / WORSHIP our babysitter and want her to come back. Big Smile

ETA: Maybe we should pay her more, then?! lol

Seriously... I mean in comparison 9 hours of a sitter at $10 an hour is close to half of what we pay for a week of daycare!  Sorry, can't come to your wedding. Too expensive! Wink

  • I hear ya, Amanda.  I'm thinking I should start babysitting on the side.  I can earn enough to go back to Turks and Caicos with just a few days a month!  Wink
