huh?!?

what does one say when husband of little over a month tells you hes still in love with ex girlfriend whos been out of the picture for over four years? He proceeds to tell you that he will always love her but he cant be with her because she will destroy him so hes with you instead? this was my after date conversation tonight. it was completely out of the blue...

i dont know what to say what to do or how to react... i feel like the scene in indiana jones temple of doom where the evil guy ripped the heart clean out of the chest of a "sacrifice" and the sacrifice was still alive looking at his heart in the evil guys hands...

Re: huh?!?

  • Oh, wow... I can't imagine how hurt you must be :/

    How did you respond?

  • I am so sad to read this!  Was your H drunk?  Have you talked to him about it and how it made you feel?

    *Hugs*

  • I would ask him why he felt to tell you this now. I mean obviously you have been together for a while and not just a few months so why is this just coming up. Also since he put it as he was with you instead I would question his love but that's just me.

I'm so sad and sorry to hear this! I can't imagine how you feel or what is going through your mind. We are always here for you!

  • This is awful. I am so sorry you're dealing with this. I would question why he brought this up now, and I would probably question why he married you. It sounds like you've been together for a few years. I would feel like I was some consolation prize. I would sit him down and talk with him about his feelings. Don't accuse him because you won't get anywhere. But I would want to know why he feels this way and what's going through his head.

Again, I am so sorry and I wish you luck. We're here for you!

I was going to say this...so sorry that he said something so thoughtless.  I'd really probe a little bit deeper to see if that is what he really meant, or if his words weren't the correct choice.  =[

  • I'm so sorry you are going thru this! How did you respond? What did he say? Did you ask him, why he is bringing that up now? I'm so sad, that your husband decided to tell you this AFTER the wedding... I hope everything works out for you.. I'm so sorry

  • I cannot even begin to understand how you must be feeling.  I am so sad and sorry you are going through this.  What was he thinking is just the beginning of questions I would have for him.  I am just at a loss of words for you.

Know that we are here for you in any way we can be.  <<hugs>>

  • I'm so sorry to hear this! I, like PP's, would also ask more questions and get deeper into this! As you probably know us May girls are here for you! I can't even imagine the hurt and confusion you are feeling.

  • I am so sorry he said this to you.  I think I would talk to him and use some I statements.  I feel.... I thought....

Let us know how it goes

  • Wow, I don't know what to say other than I am so sorry! I would try talking to him more about it... maybe look into marriage counseling... someone to help the two of you work through this ... I am so sorry!

  • we had a long talk about the whole thing and he understands my point of view although what he says is that once you have loved someone you never  stop loving them...

anyways he got rid of all her stuff and has agreed to never speak of her again. (well at least not unnecessarily speak of her... i understand that he may have to mention her name in response to a question or something.....)
