Hi Nesties!
I know I've briefly introduced myself before, but I am slowly going to try to make my rounds and get the conversations started on the new anniversary boards. I saw your random poll a few posts down, so here's my answers to that plus a few more of my own:
Name: Nest Dani
What Do You Do: I'm the community coordinator for The Nest
Where Are You From: I'm originally from Iowa (corn fed!), but I'm now living in the Big Apple.
Relationship Status (Facebook Style): Single
Describe Your Personality: I would say I am pretty outgoing. My friends are oftentimes amazed at how easily I can strike up a conversation with a stranger on the subway. I think that's the Midwest girl in me.
5 Things I Love: My family, friends, fur babies -- I have two cats back home: Lucy & Ethel and I play stepmother to my roommate's cat The Duchess -- and my edible loves: cupcakes and ice cream.
5 Things I Dislike: Waking up in the mornings, subway rodents, scary movies, mushrooms and seafood -- but I am working on this one since I live on the coast now!
Morning beverage of choice? Iced coffee. It's a must have.
Starbucks or Dunkin? Either. It depends what I'm in the mood for. If I want an actual coffee flavored drink: Starbucks. If I want something sweet: Dunkin (I usually get a black iced coffee with caramel, but the syrup is SO thick and sugary... and so good.)
Favorite food to make? I'm not much of a cook. I'm working on it. But I do make a mean PB&J. And my grilled cheese is pretty good, too.
Favorite food to eat out? Hmmm... I don't think I really have a favorite restaurant food. Maybe like a good juicy burger or a nice big pasta dinner.
Favorite hamburger topping? Depending on what I'm in the mood for. Cheese for sure. And either the standard ketchup, lettuce, tomato, mayo OR pineapple, bacon & bbq sauce. YUM!
Feel free to interrogate me with other questions you might think of. I look forward to getting to know you all a little better!
Re: Intro to Nest Dani
Hi Nest Dani!
Would you share pictures of your fur babies (and step fur baby)?
How did you get involved with the Nest?
What's your favorite thing about living in NYC?
Also, if you love iced coffee, you should definitely try the Pioneer Woman's recipe. It is totally worth the effort! And the variation with sweetened condensed milk and a splash of half and half is a little bit of heaven. Here's the recipe:

(I halve the recipe since a gallon is more manageable in my fridge than 2.)

Nice to meet you Nest Dani!
Nothing wrong with a good grilled cheese, I've been seeing more "gourmet" grilled cheese sandwiches out there, and it's inspiring me to try some ideas at home. One of my favorites recently was a grilled cheese with caramelized onions, so yummy! Another had cooked broccoli and carrots inside. Might sound weird but they are so good.

Ditto!
I thought you'd never ask! These are my girls back home, Lucy & Ethel:
And this is my step furbaby, Duchess (looking much more innocent than she really is):
How did you get involved with the Nest? I was actually an intern at SHAPE magazine for a little while, and my boss there later ended up taking a new job here at the XO Group. I heard that she had some new positions available, so I reached out to inquire about them, and a few interviews later I got the job!
What's your favorite thing about living in NYC? I love the endless amount of things to do. From all of the parks to explore to all of the shows to see, there is no reason for anyone to ever be bored in this city! Oh, and the endless amount of restaurants to try. So. Much. Food.
And that iced coffee recipe is fabulous! I will have to try that this weekend. It would be a GREAT way to cut back on my spending. (Although I might miss my regular Starbucks' crew. They're so good to me!)
Being as I live in a tiny, little New York apartment, I will probably have to try it with just a pitcher. Any recommendations as to how much ground coffee to use? (ETA: Ignore this question. I just saw the recipe card at the bottom. I think I should be able to do the math for this... ha) This will also be fantastic because my roommate and I just got a Keurig, but we still have bags of coffee beans and grounds to use. So, BIG thanks!
Yes! I love my "grown-up" grilled cheese! I've had some with sauteed peppers and carmelized onions... SO GOOD. I haven't heard of them with made with broccoli though... interesting. I usually make mine at home with tomatoes and I like to add a little bit of mayo and French dressing for flavor.
That Tom & Chee restaurant sounds awesome! (Clever name, too, ha.) My dad has never been much of a cook, but growing up that was his thing. One of his few specialties in the kitchen was grilled cheese and tomato soup. Ha, that and reubens... which I will say were pretty good!
I think I need to make a trip to Cincinnati...
Grilled cheese DONUTS. Yum!
I love grilled cheese but I barely have it anymore because it's one thing Hubby and I cannot agree on... His grilled cheese is *BLEECH*. So whenever we have it we have to make our own and it just is silly...
Dani, your fur babies are adorable!
Pomegranate Margarita
Thanks ladies!
Fashion: That pomegranate margarita looks like the perfect drink for a hot summer night like tonight!

Love love love the kitties! Too much cuteness!
I hope you have success with and enjoy the iced coffee! It definitely helps to cut down on my Starbucks spending. I still go a couple times a week for green tea lemonade or a skinny cinnamon dolce latte, but that's cheaper than every day. :-)

Ha, thanks! Sometimes when she looks at me from the right angle I think it looks like she is curling her lip like Elvis.
