Hi all; I need some advice on how to keep my dogs in the yard and safe.
I have two dogs - one bichon and one pekignese/daschund mix - very small dogs. We put up a new privacy fence around our backyard last summer and we've had no issues. The fence is necessary because we live next to a busy road so we need to make sure the dogs stay safe and inside - plus it's nice to lay in the yard without all of Rt. 13 looking in.
In the past week both dogs have gotten out - last Sunday we picked up the pekignese from the SPCA because she got about 3 blocks before someone cornered her and got animal control and tonight, the bichon was next door playing with my neighbor's pit bulls. Nice dogs but I just prefer to supervise.
We sealed every single miniscule out we can find and they are still managing to escape; I don't know what to do about it anymore. Does anyone have any tips? I could really use some....
Re: Keeping them safe
Supervision.
Most of the old board regulars (who've migrated to ProBoards) don't leave their dogs unattended in their yards, and those who do check on them every 5 minutes or so, or can watch them through windows or screen doors.
This. I don't ever leave my dog where I can't see him. I've seen too many bad things happen in a split second.
I agree with this. I don't leave my dog where I can't see him. He can be outside without me but I check outside through windows and through the door every 5 minutes or so. I'm pretty sure he can't get out of my fence, we've checked, doublechecked, and triple checked, but I'm way too paranoid and things can happen in the blink of an eye.
