July 3rd Randoms

It's 9:07 am and it's almost 80 degree's. No relief from the heat in site. What are you doing to stay cool??

Tomorrow we head to the lookout hill area of town for a holiday party. Today I'll do some of the food prep. We found out yesterday that the air at the party site went out so I think I'll pack a fan too. I orginaly was going to make roasted corn medallions but the the A/C out I don't want to use the oven. So I'm not sure if I should grill or steam the corn.

Maybe a trip to the pool is called for later.

Probably staying inside to stay cool!

No real plans for tomorrow.  FIL wants to come over to grill, but I really don't feel like entertaining him and baby Wop at the same time.  I'd much rather spend my day off with just us, but we'll see.  We're at least making a nice breakfast in the morning.

  • I try to stay inside to stay cool. We only have a/c in the bedroom but it keeps the house way cooler than outside. It helps that we have a lot of big trees shading our house (not so great for the garden, but at least it helps us stay cool!)

We are going to DH's grandpa's for the 4th of July tomorrow. Can't wait to see what drama I get to hear about next.

  • Our AC has been on constantly for the past day or so.

Where I'm at we are getting bad thunderstorms right now. I'm loving it!!

Teacher, I know what you mean.  Our AC seems to be on all the time with this heat.

WFL today?  I'm craving a juicy bacon cheeseburger.  I know I shouldn't eat one, but it sounds SO good right now.

  • Hannah was up at 6am and then back to bed by 7:30. It was kind of nice to be awake and get a few things done around the house. I actually was showered, dressed, and fully ready for the day by 8:30am - most days I'm lucky to get in the shower before 10am!

Our AC is having a hard time keeping up with heat. I'm fine with it being 78 (it's set to be at 72) in the house but DH would love it if I would allow him to have it at 68. Our lower level is nice and cool so we just hang out down there if it gets too warm upstairs. I don't think we have the right size unit for the square footage of our house, plus we have 12' ceilings and no attic above them for extra insulation so that doesn't help either. I don't want to spend the money on a new unit if ours works and we can get by with it being a bit warmer - at least its cooler than outside!

Tomorrow we just plan to check out the festivites in Allendale.

We've got a few rumbles of thunder here, but no rain.  Just some clouds to the north.

  • Here is my random comment for the day:

I LOVE Tide!! I used to always buy it but had been buying cheaper detergent to save money but I missed the smell and how clean it got my whites. I bought a huge bottle the other day and I am loving the way all my clean clothes smell!! Big Smile

BabyWop was up at 6:00am too, but laid back down until I woke her up at 7:10 to get ready.  She probably would have slept until 8:00 if I let her.  I hope she sleeps in until at least 7:00 tomorrow with none of this 6:00am business.

  • My (newer) laptop arrived this morning. Now I want to buy a clear case and laptop sleeve for it so it doesn't get ruined. I already have a laptop bag but it was for the 15" and I downsized to a 13". So i figure if I get a sleeve for it I can still use my bag.
  • Happy early holiday ladies. I hope everyone has relaxing and cool days. I don't so much mind the weather these days. You'll hear me b*tch enough when it's below 55. I'm wearing jeans today.

Hair appointment at 3 then heading back East. It's MIL's bday today.

So...I am uh...bored. I need to study but my brain won't let me. BUT I think I'll just take today and tomorrow off and get ready for the 3 week marathon cycle of study, cuss, cry. At least it's over soon.

However.. job prospects are dim as ever. I'm trying to figure out an alternative career. It's depressing lol. I'm glad B was able to find a job here..but when will it be MY turn?? In 3 weeks I will literally have NOTHING to do. Sigh...

    /end whine...for now

  • We were at the park by 9 am today. I brought along a picnic breakfast for the girls. They thought it was pretty cool to eat a bowl of cereal at the playground. I'm so lucky they are so easily entertained.  We were able to play about an hour before it got too hot. I'm glad they got to go outdoors a bit day.  We then strolled around Costco for about an hour.

Hopefully they are napping now. I need to get a few things done. I really should just hang out in my bedroom and enjoy the air.  We moved the portable air from the living room to Mia's room so the downstairs is hot.

BNG - taking a couple of days off is probably a good idea. It sounds like you need a break. Good luck with the job search.

  • So if you were going to take a long weekend away with your DH/SO...where would be your #1 spot? It doesn't necessarily have to be in Michigan! I REALLY want to get away but honestly haven't been very many places so I'm not ever sure where we would go!
  • My van stalled for 45 minutes yesterday at work and then finally started. Geesh I was sweating in that heat waiting for 10-15 minutes here and there. Finally got it started and it works just fine. I bought it from co worker and she has had that happen to her a few times. Even took it to the shop and they couldn't figure out what was wrong so hey if it does it every once in a while. I am ok with that. This van has to last me for a while.

BNG - take a break - you deserve it!

Got bankruptcy filed last week so this is a big lift of my shoulder but I am still very stressed/anxiety about it.

No plans for the 4th - all my friends are busy, Mike is working, and I'll probably be the only one watching the fireworks in Kentwood by myself.

  • Here is DH's funny random comment. He told me he put feta on the fennel egg salad that I made. Then he says,

"Feta is the bacon of cheese."

    That's my DH!
