What to do in GR?

I know there is plenty to do but what to do during a three day, two night stay with a toddler?  We were thinking of the children's museum and the zoo.  What else?

  • Millenium Park

    Frederik Meijer Gardens!

Find a local ice cream shop. Jersey Junction is nice if you are going to be in East GR.  Also Reeds Lake in that area is nice walk around.

Go to Grand Haven and park on the other end the other of the State Park and walk along the broadwalk until you get to the pier.

If there is a rainy day, you could either Woodland Mall or Rivertown for their play area (go early!)  Or find a library close by where you are staying. East Grand Rapids has a nice kids section.

  • Thanks, gvsu!  Any recommendations for a hotel?

  • Grkids.com  is a great resource.

  • Are you visiting family or friends that you want to be in a certain area or just coming for fun?

Let me look at hotels.  What price range were you thinking?

  • meijer gardens is a must see.

the zoo is nice for a small city zoo.

the childrens museum can be fun but honestly your kids might have just as much fun in the kids play area inside the east grand rapids library.  i would skip the downtown museum and play in the library and walk around the lake in east grand rapids and walk for ice cream. and lunch in egr

if the weather is not cooperating you might consider a trip to the jesters court indoor inflatable park.  at 5 bucks a toddler and adults free it is an affordable and fun way to burn energy.

  • There's a Java Gym around somewhere too, isn't there?  One distinct memory my sisters and I have of our childhood was the time we got to stay at Comfort Inn (I think) on 28th St., which had a pool.  It was one of the few trips we took where we stayed in a hotel but weren't really traveling, so we actually had time to just play in the pool ( my mom tended to micro plan vacations, so times to just be still in the hotel weren't common).

In more recent years, we stayed at one of the hotels on Alpine & it was nice.  Unfortunately, I can't remember which it was.

java gym is on beltline just north of knapp.  i prefer jesters court because java gym is more expensive and can get really crowded.

i have had good luck with the 28th street hotels near the airport.  my favorites are the holiday inn express. hilton. holiday inn select. and residence inn.  the ramada near woodland mall has a indoor waterpark but i have found that hotel a bit older and dingy.  if downtown the jw marriott is really nice. all of these hotels have pools.
