Anyone headed to London for the Olympics?

Especially if you are travelling from the US, I am really curious as to how much tickets to the events cost if you don't mind sharing. Any info would be appriciated actually.

DH and I have been dreaming of Rio 2016 since they announced the location in 2009. We are already saving for it, but I have no idea how much tickets to the events cost. I should have looked earlier at the London prices, but I didn't think of it. The only ones left now are either $2k or to semi-finals for smaller, less viewed events.

TIA!

Re: Anyone headed to London for the Olympics?

  • I am not, personally (though I wish!) - but I was at dinner with four friends a few weeks ago, and they mentioned that they'd be in London for part of the games.  They got 4 tickets to one of the soccer games, for a total of $2500.  I have no idea what game it is, how close to the finals/semifinals it is, what teams, etc.  All I know is it is a men's soccer game.

I'm sure the logistics are very different, but when we went to the Winter Games in Vancouver a couple years what we saw for ticket prices sounds similar to what you're seeing now. Big marquee events were thousands per ticket, but we had some tickets to a skiing event that got postponed and we could no longer attend and we couldn't give them away. I'm also not sure if it's applicable to the Summer Games, but there were a couple events we went to that had options for seats or general admission (bobsled and ski jump), and general admission was fine, so that might be something to look into, too.
