OB vent

Dr. L (the one who I've been seeing for the past 4 appointments) has been awesome. We've gone over my birth plan, he agreed to work with me and do NSTs, hormone blood work and an ultrasound to check baby's placenta before recommending an induction, and would try his damndest to make sure that I can avoid any and all interventions unless absolutely necessary... great! Only he won't be my doctor unless I either go 1 week early or 2 full weeks late.

As it turns out, Dr. V will be my doctor if I go into labor within that time frame. I haven't so much as seen her with this pregnancy, but with my last she was cold to say the least. Every appointment I had with her left me feeling like a total moron whether I'd asked her questions or not. She was the one who scheduled my induction with Wyatt (albeit I was happy to have one), and said at the time that she would 'allow' me to go only 10 days over at the most before doing a c-section... thankfully I got another doctor that day who let me labor 3 days and I avoided one.

I feel stupid jumping to the conclusion that she would be a horrible doctor. She's on staff for a reason right? I'm just super nervous to go over my birth plan with her when Dr. L has already said that she is less than NB friendly, and has a much higher c-section rate (but wouldn't say why). Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about this unless I want to switch practices and go to Edmonton (3 hour drive), which I would be happy to do if only Lance didn't think I was crazy because of it. I keep trying to remind myself that no one can make me do anything I'm not comfortable with, but I don't want to be fighting my doctor the whole way either.

I don't even know what I want from posting this. Just to get it off my chest for now I guess. I'm just getting scared and feel stupid because of it.

Re: OB vent

  • It's really frustrating when you don't get much of a choice of who delivers your baby.  Hopefully everything works out and you get your doctor of choice and if not this other one respects your wishes.

I read the comments you got on Facebook about this lady not being so good at the stitches.  Do you guys have an obstetrician there that would be on call or anything?  If so, I would request them after you give birth if possible.  The OB that did my "repair" did a great job and I haven't had any issues with my tear at all (minus the random tidbit that wearing thong underwear is not really uncomfortable :)  I feel really lucky.

  • That sounds frustrating. Fingers crossed you go early so you get the doctor you want.

I'm definitely planning to ask. I'm just not sure how far it will get me. The only other actual OB that we have in our town is Dr. L (I'm assuming this because they are the only two able to do c-sections) I'm not 100% sure if he'll be in town in that time or if he's leaving. I'm going to try to request him as my doctor but like I said, it's unlikely that they would let me do that.

Thanks for letting me vent :)

  • Fingers crossed that you have the Dr you want deliver your newest little one!

We had to be induced and had the choice of going in Tues or Wed - There were 5 Dr's in my practice and the 1 that got You-arent-my patient-so-dont-waste-my-time vibes from was on call the first night - we went in the 2nd and my Dr delivered D.
