How do I get him to...

Hello!

I'm new to thenest - I used theknot while planning my wedding and I'm now on the bump, but I've never made my way over here!  I have a question that I'm hoping someone will have advice on...

My husband is fabulous.  I love him to death, and he is one of the neatest, cleanest people I know.  However, he has this terrible habit of leaving the house without brushing his teeth.  I know, disgusting.  For example, he is a runner and this morning he got up quick to go for a run with a buddy...I know he did not brush before he left - his poor friend!!  He says that he just forgets when he's not in his shower/breakfast/brush/off to work routine...but on days like today he would also say something like "John doesn't care" or "He's not going to notice - it's not like I get that close." And if I don't remind him when he gets home, he won't brush until he goes to bed at night. I don't know how to bring this up in a way that lets him know how truly mortified I am by his breath when he does this!

I had the same issue with my H except it was with deodorant. He was homeschooled growing up and his mom thought deodorant was bad for him so she refused to buy it. By the time college rolled around, H wasn't in the habit of putting it on. In the three years since we got married I bought him the kind I like to smell and made a big deal about how it's something he can do to make me happy. Now he remembers on his own 98% of the time. I'll tell him not to forget deodorant and he'll do a silly 'it's like magic and already on' routine to make me laugh.

    GL.

  • No kisses! LOL ;). That will remind him.
  • I like the no kisses advice! I kind of have the same problem with my fiance. I have to buy him toothbrishes because he will use the same one for years! I have also noticed him forget a time or two or three so I am interested to see more advice from marrieds. Thanks for the postWink
  • Men. They are so gross sometimes. When he starts having to pay big bucks for cavities he'll figure out you were right! I'd just tell him that you don't want to be married to "the stinky kid in class".
