Has anyone stayed at The Caves in Jamaica

DH and I are looking to getaway in December and he suggested an AI, which we've never done before.  He wants to chill...which is really odd to hear him say.  This will be our first trip without kids since 2009!

The Caves in Jamaica looks really cool to me, has anyone been?

Any other suggestions for AIs?

This might give you a feel for what we are looking for in an AI.  We generally prefer more adventurous travel so are not looking to sit at the resort all day long, we'd like to do some excursions.  We are definitely more into nature activities (snorkeling, kayaking, etc) than cultual activies.

Re: Has anyone stayed at The Caves in Jamaica

  • I havent stayed there but on our honeymoon we went cliff diving right near there. It looked amazing, I would love to go back and stay there. I know you hear mixed reviews about Jamaica but we loved every minute of it. It was the prettiest island I have ever been to. There are tons of adventure activities to go to. My husband did the cliff dive and loved it, it was a little too adventurous for me. The snorkeling is wonderful there.

  • We also passed by the caves and it does look great. If you are looking into Jamaica, try the couples resorts. We stayed at Couples Swept away and loved it and there is also a Couples Negril which is highly rated. The good thing about couples is that all the activities you do are included in the price you pay. They inclusives are different at each resort but at CSA you could go out on the boat snorkeling twice a day or go scuba diving, there was an awesome sunset cruise and water skiing. It was nice not to have to pay extra to do all these things. And they pick you up and return you to the airport.
  • We've stayed at both AI (Couples Negril) and non AI(The Rockhouse) and will NEVER stay at another AI in Negril again. The food, people, ambiance, etc is a million times better not doing AI. In the end I don't think we spent anymore money than we did at the AI, and if we did it was well worth it to eat/drink exactly what we wanted when we wanted.  We also hired a driver to/from the airport - so much better than doing the AI bus.

While I've always heard great things about The Caves, I would still pick the Rockhouse or Tensing Pen over it.  If you need any recs on where to eat, what to do, car service, etc just let me know - we LOVE Negril and are looking forward to going back!

One bit of advice, do NOT fly in on the weekend especially a Saturday.  It took us over 5 hours to get through customs which we were told can be normal during high season.

  • We are planning to stay there next spring - I've been reading reviews for years and wanting to go there.

Are you on Jetsetter?  They have a sale going on right now that includes early December.  If you need an invite, you can follow my link -

Also, I'd recommend posting this on "the other board," as I know there's at least one poster who has been there as well as other AIs in Jamaica and can give you a thorough review.
