Homeowner's Insurance Opinions
(Sorry if this was posted somewhere else on this board!)
Which insurance company would have the best rates with the best policy? My lender said Farm Bureau, but after googling their reviews, it looks like they aren't all that great. State Farm has been ranked in the top 5 on two other websites I looked at. What have you all found out? Thanks!!
Re: Homeowner's Insurance Opinions
Hmmm....not sure where you are located, but we have an agent that we work with. He found us a good deal with this company that is based in Rhode Island, I think - something like $1080 per year for insurance. I have to find the printout of what coverage we'd be getting, but it was by far better than the other places we checked with.
The company name is Narragansett Bay Insurance Company, so check them out - maybe this would be a good option for you.
If you are military or one of your family members is, you should look into getting into USAA (it's like a credit union for military (any branch)) and they also do investments, banking, and other cool things like discounts on flowers, jewelry, and rental cars. They historically have rates that other companies cannot touch. And, their customer service is AMAZING.
I've been with them since 1997.
I would call around for quotes. Both our realtor and loan officer recommended Country Insurance, saying many of their clients got excellent rates. I think that's who we're going with (we have an appointment next week). By far, they were way more affordable than State Farm (I have car insurance with State Farm). Even WITH the discount for also having car insurance, State Farm quoted us $900/year.
Country quoted us $680 a year normally, or if H switches his auto insurance to them (which we're thinking he will), home insurance is only $540/year. Big savings. We'll probably go with them depending on the auto quote they give us for H. We also want to see how much extra flood insurance is since the house has a brand new finished basement and we're considered about future water damage.
