Need advice for my lab-long

I will try to make this as short as possible., backstory;

My black lab starting throwing up in May after we switched our dogs rooms to make room for the new baby. Brought her to the vet and they gave her an anti-nausea injection and Some meds to bring home and some L/F food to do a bland diet with. She got better.

When we had the baby in May the same thing happened again.  This time they gaveher a bolus of fluid because she seemed a little dehydrated. Sent us home with the same meds. When we mixed the L/F with her original food, she was fine but when she goes back on her normal food fully she starts to vomit again. She was on Taste of the Wild the fish blend. I did notice that the consistency of her food was weird, almost like it was bad. Got her s new bag of food.

 Fast forward to now, she is throwing up again, the food seems bad. I went out and bought a new airtight container, and changed her food to natural balance duck and potato. She has been on a bland diet of  chicken and rice, I started to introduce the new food and she will eat around it and leave some of it In the bowl after she is done.  I talked to the vet and they said To give her Pepcid AC 15mg twice a day for 2 weeks and still introduce the new food.

My question is is she just a picky dog now? any advice?

Sorry for any typos I am on the ipad

Re: Need advice for my lab-long

  • Sorry I can't help.  I know if my lab stopped eating, I would be VERY concerned.  She has a sensitive stomach (no vomiting, just diarrhea) but has always had a great appetite.
  • There's a couple things that I'm wondering--did the company change their formula? I would call them and see if they've had any other complaints.

    Did your vet recommend a certain brand of food to change her to? If she is only eating the chicken and rice, I'd stick to that and add in a little of the new food everyday.

    Is she having bowel issues? The only time we had to feed our dog meat & rice (with Pepto) was when he had severe diarrhea, and it only took about 24 hours and he was getting better.

    I'm sorry I don't have more advice for you. I would just stick with what you're doing and what the vet advises. GL!

  • My lab has vomited a few times. I figure it is because he has a sensitive stomach and cannot have table/ human food. He has also had the runs before. He has been doing fine as long as we don't feed him anything outside of his normal dog food. We do keep his dog food in a crisper.

     Do you think perhaps your dog might be vomiting from nervousness of the new baby? Maybe a change of the enviroment has caused him/her to vomit. Dogs have feelings too.
