I need a good rec for a Marriott franchise hotel in Barcelona - I think Barcelona has AC and Renaissance brands. Reviews seem mixed on several of them - was hoping Nesties could guide me. Anyone stayed at a Marriott franchise hotel? Likes/dislikes? Which one did you stay at? How close were you to "cool stuff" (Sagrada Familia, Olympic village, etc)?
The airport Renaissance says they have a complimentary shuttle to the city center - anyone have an experience with this?
Want to use Marriott points, which is why I'm being picky.
Re: Marriotts in Barcelona?
I personally would stay at one closer to the city center. The airport isn't very far from the city but it would get old to take 30 minutes each way to travel to the heart of the city.
I looked on the Marriot's website. I honeymooned in Barcelona and spent two weeks on the Forum side (AC Barcelona Forum) is located there. It was a more local area, close to the beach and a mall. I stayed at a Hilton not a Marriott. We were looking for a relaxing honeymoon so being on that side was nice. It was a quick taxi or metro to the city center.
The last time I was in Barcelona I rented an apartment off Las Ramblas. It was a completely different experience staying that close to everything. We could leave our place and grab food at St. Joseph's market. There is a great energy to Barcelona and it was a lot of fun to be in the center of it.
I saw that there are quite a few in and around the city center. I would choose one of those if you want to be close to where lots of things to experience are going on. Barcelona is one of my favorite cities I hope you have a great trip.
