I need to chat.

DH applied for a job that he found online. He actually applied for like 8 jobs.  Today, he got an email from a recruiter that asked if he would be interested in relocating.  It is not to what I would consider a desirable location but it isn't too far away (so we could maintain the same visitation schedule with SD, which is very important to both of us). So he told them - sure. And now he has an interview.

I am freaking out.

Re: I need to chat.

  • Would this affect your job?  Would you definitely have to move, or would he commute?

  • Oh, gosh, we would definitely have to move. And yes, this would affect my job. I looked online and...yikes. There isn't a lot out there for me - I would probably have to take a significant pay cut. And I am fine with that, I guess, if HE gets a decent job.

  • I'd be freaking out, too. Change is hard, yo!

I would tell you not to jump ahead of yourself and worry without the certainty of moving, but if you're anything like me, you need to do this to prepare yourself for the possibility and to avoid a larger freak out.

Y'all have to do what's best for you as a unit. Good luck and keep us posted! When's the interview?

  • Oh wow. Okay, let's think about this logically. Pros and cons. Let's hear a list of pros and cons.
  • Lizzy, that is exactly what I am doing - preparing - change is VERY difficult for me - so hard. I am such an old geezer.  But, if my mind is settled, I am okay. I have looked for jobs online. I have looked for houses, I have looked at neighborhoods, emailed some people to get some info, etc etc.  It is a dramatic way to go about doing things but I have to feel comfortable.

Pros and cons..I don't really have any yet. I am so comfortable where we live - our house - the town we live in - our pets - it is just scary to think about moving but it HAS to be an option because there isn't a lot here for him.  I told my mentor - he is FREAKING OUT - and has apparently spent all day making calls and passing DH's resume around which is sweet.

Ideally, what I would prefer, is if things could flip..he makes the big bucks, he deals with the stress of all of that and I could just coast for a few years. Is that bad?

Nope. I was the breadwinner for the first four years of our marriage (and the only one with an income for three of those years). I'm so happy to not be in that position anymore.

Ha! Good!  So, I found a neighborhood and a few houses so I am feeling better about that. DH is simply rolling his eyes...

Are these houses puppy suitable or will there be major renovations?

So funny!!!  I think, ideally, what we would do is just buy something cheap to have a house (plus the tax deductions and a backyard for puppies!) and wait about 1 - 2 years before *really* looking, that way we can get a handle on where everything is, our favorite parts of town, traffic to/from work, etc etc.  Of course, I would eventually want to buy something we can fix up.  What would be nice is if we initially bought something super super cheap that we could live in while the other property is being renovated.

I talked to the puppies last night. They are cool with anything as long as they have a pool. Spoiled little mutts!

  • Change is really, really hard for me, too - which is why this upcoming move to CO is freaking me out, even though I've had months to prepare for it. I probably will be in denial about it until we find a place to live, I get a job and we actually leave Stillwater for good.

I'm like you in that I research EVERYTHING about a new place if it's even possible that we could be living there. H thinks I'm nuts for doing it. I have no real advice on how to help except for drawing up a pro/con list and, if the job for your H really does happen and a move seems more possible than not, really sitting down to go over that list and figuring out if it's the best move for everyone involved. Good luck! :)

  • Thanks Wifey! We did decide that at X amount we would consider it and at X amount it is a no brainer. So...we'll see. I am actually a tad TOO excited about the prospect. That's not to say I won't be in meltdown mode if it happens (heck, I am already in meltdown mode) but it a change like this, together, might be a lot of fun.

And I am always in favor of being as far away from my mother as possible!

  • I remember feeling slightly excited about moving here to WF. That has passed. I do understand the mother thing. That may be what keeps me rolling my eyes at this place. She's within to/from distance with us here. Not that she would come, but the prospect irks me. I think if it's good for him, and you can find something you can live with, and the puppies are happy it's probably not all bad! And if you guys hate it, a year goes by fast.
The length of a minute depends on which side of the bathroom door you are standing on! Photobucket
What do you mean that's the wrong side? Tastes great to me!
