About three months ago I stopped taking my BC. I really started thinking about my mental and physical health and how I felt like it came crashing down when we bought this house. I think the MOLD contributed to a lot of my physical issues (ie, the discovery that I have asthma) and probably the stress, a lot of change at one time, etc etc contributed to me feeling mentally kooky. However...around the same time, my fantastic insurance company decided I *had* to start taking the generic of my BC - in the past, I had requested the *real* stuff and they allowed me to do so. I got to thinking...could that have something to do with how I felt?
I stopped taking them and...man..I feel freaking fantastic. Like, the best I have felt in years. My periods aren't any heavier, in fact, I notice no changes with that at all except for a little cramping right before I start. Overall, I am just shocked at how much better I feel.
So, that's that. No more BC pills. I have a tracker on my phone that has worked really well for knowing when sexy time is appropriate and when it isn't so... we'll see how that works...
Re: Between you, me, and the internets...
Oh, as stupid as this sounds, I did not know this. I am being extra extra careful since children are not in my immediate future. The app has worked very well for my KU and non-KU friends so...we'll see....
I was going to say the same as drillerswife. Unless you have *very* regular cycles, the ones that just predict your ovulation based on the length of your cycles aren't necessarily accurate. I have fairly regular cycle lengths, but my ovulation days are all over the place. Stress or illness can really mess with your cycles, too, even if they are usually regular.
I haven't used hormonal BC since DS was born. I chart my cycles by temp only (though I am admittedly not great about doing it all the time) and we use condoms every time we have sex during my potentially fertile window (from cycle day 8 to 17 for me based on my past cycles). We also do withdrawal method a couple of days before and after that. It has worked for us so far (but we are planning on having H snipped in the near future.)
If you are using backup in a pretty wide area around your potential ovulation time, you are probably good.
We *always* use back up - even when I was using BC - so, hopefully we are okay. I am taking every precaution though, Lord knows we do not want/need a baby right now!
Or ever.
Also, I have no idea what temping is.
It's using a basal body thermometer to take your temp every morning at the same time when you first wake up. You then chart the temperatures and can see when you ovulate after you have three consecutive rising temps. That's a really basic explanation...Check out fertilityfriend.com
I usually ovulate on day 16. But not last July, lol. After a year and a half of TTC, we figured we didn't need to use a back up method when we decided to stop trying for awhile. And now I have a beautiful baby boy!
