On Friday we picked up a 9 week old lab puppy. Potty training is going well so far. The first night we were up most of the night taking him out because we were really nervous he would mess in his crate. Also, the crate was in our bedroom to keep an eye on him. We didn't get much sleep because we could hear every breath and rustle of paper the entire night. We moved the crate into the living room and he stayed in for 8 1/2 hours until we came to take him out. No messes! So, while potty training is going pretty well, our biggest concerns are his biting and our cat. He is biting on literally everything...we say no and move him off of 1 thing and he's onto another things to bite. We just keep shoving toys in his mouth and trying to draw him off....eventually if this doesn't work I suppose we can try bitter apple or the sprays to keep him from chewing. The biggest issue of all is our cat. She is a sweet and very social 1 1/2 year old cat. She was our baby and had the run of everything until we got our puppy. She is okay and isn't hiding. She actually keeps coming out to watch him and wants to get close and sniff him but everytime she tries, he tries to sniff her butt which she doesn't like so she takes off running which he mistakes for playing. He can't go up to her without jumping our pouncing playfully. She hisses and paws at him (her front paws are declawed) We're trying to let them figure it out and get used to each other on their own. I love my cat to death and she is my baby and I feel guilty because none of this is her fault. We've moved her stuff into our bathroom connected to our bedroom so she can eat, use the litter, and sleep in peace. His crate and toys are in the living room. While we're gone for the day we keep him in his crate and her locked in the bedroom/bathroom. The only time they are together is when we're home. Does anyone have any advice on how we can make this any easier or smoother. I know it depends on the dog and cat, but how long has this process taken anyone else?

Re: lab puppy and a cat
9 weeks is a tad young to be away from his mother. I think the thing is this: the mother usually teaches the pups not to bite -- he lost out on that advantage.:(
Try introducing the cat and puppy little by little. get something with his scent and leave it in the areas where your cat roams. She'll get used to his scent and the transition will be quite a bit easier.:)
