Does anyone have any experience with cleaning services? (XP)
Would a professional maid service and steam cleaner/ carpet cleaning service be worth the cost? What should I look for when hiring someone? What is a reasonable price range? I have been ill for over 2 months now and the apartment needs some major tlc.
I would most likely be home since I am sick and slowly recovering. Would this make a difference to the cleaning service?

I'm sorry to hear about your illness. My thoughts and wishes for a speedy recovery.
As for a cleaning service, I use one. A group comes in every 2 weeks and does the major cleaning throughout my house. I picked the service we use through referrals. I think getting a referral is best when it comes to strangers entering ones home. In my opinion, I would use someone registered with the BBB and is a part of an established company.
It would be difficult for me to assess a reasonable price because I do not know your area. I live in New Jersey and for a 4,000 sq. ft. home, the service charges $150. They clean the baseboards, hardwood floors, vacuum, wipe down the granite, dust, wipe down the stainless steel, clean the windows and glass, clean the tiles and bathroom fixtures. Minor items like dishes and laundry I do myself.

$150 for 4,000 sq ft sounds reasonable to me. All we have is close to 1,000 sq ft and it may be pricy because we live in a metropolitan area.
I'll be sure to look at reviews and if they are registered with the BBB. No one I know personally uses a cleaning service so I am out of luck there.
