Small Companies and product problems (vent)

Do you ever get burned by small companies? So I have had two issues with small companies. I try really hard to support local and small business.

I had an issue with M's big boy mattress. And the customer service was HORRIBLE. like i was troubling them the whole time when they were in the wrong, they made me feel like a ***.

Now i bought a pair of pricey bike shorts from a small NYC company and first they sent me a size smaller and never sent out the new size after a month of waiting so i told her i would keep the smaller size as they fit. Well the damn things are UNRAVELING from one wear. I am furious and sent her an email but i swear she is going to tell me no returns since she too as had the most terrible customer service with me.

so disappointing, i know if i was dealing with a bigger company they would be bending over backwards to help me such a bummer.

  • That sucks and I'm sorry to hear you are having issues.

In my experiences, I've had great luck dealing with smaller companies if issues arise.

I hope things get worked out for you quickly.

Thats what I have had in the past. But these two are leaving a sour taste. I bought the shorts in may waited to June to get them. Waited to July to realize I'm not getting the right size because she is busy opening a retail store and now they are unraveling.

  • Ugh, that sucks.

I've discovered both.  In my head, I've decided some people should just not have their own business.  While their product or service may be awesome, they have absolutely no business sense.  You need both to have a small business.  I ran into a similar issue with a service based small company.  Got the runaround, and acted like I was dumb or didn't keep track of emails.  Annoying.

But then I've had people act like I'm the star customer of the year, when I'm only purchasing something very small.

  • Truth it can be hit or miss. I emailed the person about the shorts and i'm getting totally ignored. I might file something with PayPal if I don't hear back by Friday. And leave some shitty reviews. Both of these companies are expanding and I don't think they have the manpower for it and that's the issue.
