Vacuum for frieze carpet AND hardwoods?

Good morning everyone,

Does anyone here have frieze and hardwoods, and a vacuum that they love? I am not terribly interested in the Dyson models, but am willing to research them if you have one you love. I would really like something with an adjustable beater bar, or one with an on/off option.

TIA!

Re: Vacuum for frieze carpet AND hardwoods?

  • Look into canister vacs. I grew up in a house with about half tile floors and half really thick pile carpets and we used a mid range Kenmore canister vac with a bag (this was before bagless vacs). You swapped out the head depending on which floor surface you were vacuuming. I currently use an el-cheapo Bissell upright that I keep waiting to die so that I can get a Dyson or something similar. I would NOT recommend the Bissell for hard floors, but its great on carpets.

  • We just got the Kenmore Intuition...can't remember the model number, but it was on sale for $199.99...normally $299.99.  It is the bagless, beltless model (which I liked) and has adjustable pile height or the option to turn the beater bar off completely and just use suction.
  • Thanks everyone! I ended up at a local vacuum shop, and bought one that I had done a little research on. So far, very pleased!

Thanks again for the suggestions! Much appreciated!

  • i bought this one near the beginning of this year.  i was getting my house ready to rent (carpet, so cleaned with it real hard, then moved into two different old apartments since then.  needless to say, it's been put to the test and it's GREAT!  i absolutely love it!  it's super easy to switch back and forth between different types of floor and it sucks better than anything i've used.  i have a dog with short pointy hairs that get stuck in EVERYTHING and the vacuum works super well to get her hair off the furniture and carpets and everything else!
