I live in an inner city area with lots of stray cats. No collar on this young adult (looks like previously pregnant?) but I',m assuming ferral just to be on the cautious side.
Last week, during some stormy weather, I heard a cat under my apartment's deck. Two days ago, I believe the same cat was on my deck. Yesterday I saw it limping (streatching itself every four steps, as well).
I cannot take in this cat (one reason is we have an elderly cat of my own who's own health can't afford to catch anything). I can't afford to nurse a stray to health, either.
I normally don't take the route of feeding strays because I don't wish to train them to depend on me as a main source of food...given our heat I'm considering putting a bowl of water.
I'd like advice on how to safely trap the cat to take into a shelter (we are a no kill city, but I heard a few days ago noone was taking in cats) so she can have her leg looked at.
Re: Injured, possible ferral cat
Oh poor kitty! In my city we can call animal control and they come out with a trap and set it up where we think it will catch the animal and then when trapped we just have to call animal control back and they will come out for pickup. Don't know if you've already tried that or not. Another thing is to google local rescues and they might come out to trap it.
Good luck. She's lucky to have someone willing to help.
