As you may have seen on fb we are going to California.  We are leaving Texas Aug 2nd and will be there until the 11th.  Is the Park Hopper pass for Disneyland worth getting or should we just get the regular pass?  We are going to go one day but we aren't sure which day.

If you are only going one day, get the park hopper pass!!! They are literally right next to each other. David and I bounced back and forth between the parks probably 4-5 times while we were there, and so it was worth every penny. Especially because some rides would go down for extended time periods, so then we could just zip over to the other park and come back later.

  • I agree with Cole. Unless you are suuuper tight on money, it's definitely fun to go to both parks. The entrances are about 400 yards from each other. That being said, there is PLENTY to do at just Disneyland if you need to save money. Either way, you would never get to everything in one day. Over at California, you must must must go on Soarin and the hotel one (I forgot the name, lol) early b/c the lines get LOOOONG... but they are super fun (Soarin is a MUUUUST).

    Here's are some tips:

First, if you are coming from MP... if you leave before 8:30-9, you'll hit LA traffic (you go THROUGH LA to get to Anaheim). Check sigalert.com for traffic and hit me up if you need help with navigating. I know LA freeways really well. :)

It'll be HOT in Anaheim in August. Bring a bottle of water so you can fill it up throughout the day.

The park is often open later on weekend nights but it's probably more crowded (though with it being summer, it might just be busy all the time). Utilize your fast pass as often as you can (you can usually have one at a time, so I'll get a fast pass, wait to go on another ride, go on the fast pass ride, get another pass, wait in a line, etc...)

If you are getting a locker, get it at Disneyland, not California (it's usually open later). If you go to Disneyland, go ahead and grab a fast pass for one of the big rides (maybe Space Mountain or Indiana)

If you are not getting a locker (or after you get a locker), Head over to California as soon as possible to get a fast pass for the World of Color show at night at California. It's awesome but you need a fast pass and they run out quick... on a side note, later that night, you want to get there early to get a decent spot. Fantasmic and fireworks are also very cool to watch.

Go on Soarin early (the line gets suuuuper long). Maybe take the LO to the Bugs Life or check out the new Cars Land (I haven't seen it).

Try to go on the bigger rides earlier (the lines get longer as the day goes on):
Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion, Pirates
California: Soarin, Rapids (beware: you get wet but there's dry space for your things, go early so you have time to dry).

If you want to go to Toon Town, you'll have to go during the day. IT closes at night (it's where they let the fireworks off from).

Favorite food spots: Soup bread bowls at California or go out to Downtown Disney and grab something there (easssy walking distance or even take the monorail to Downtown Disney). The Mexican place over in frontierland has big portions for a decent price.

You'll have fun but just be prepared for it to be hot and crowded. That's the nature of summertime at Disney. :)

What else are you planning to do while we are here?
