... is the appropriate amount to spend on a 'you just had a beautiful new baby' gift? She's a good friend (though she lives pretty far away now and I couldn't go to the shower), but I wanted to get her something to celebrate her new addition. I spent a little more than $50 on a few small things from Target, and she's gushing all over me like I bought her the whole store.
I thought $50 would be appropriate slash maybe even not enough... I had planned on maybe getting her something else when she came back up to VA in August.
Just out of curiosity, what's your typical gift?

For baby showers most people I know spend around $25 for a gift. If I get the chance I will go to Build-a-Bear and get a bear with a version of the child's name on their actual birthday.
I think 50 is good. If I had it to spare I might go to $75 but not necessarily.
Maybe she was just excited you got her really good stuff, because many people just get whatever they want and there are lots of different baby styles out there. I remember getting things we never used once.
